This is a pre-employment or entry-level work-ready qualification within the drilling industry. Graduates will be familiar with drilling equipment and tools and have the necessary skills and knowledge to work safely on a drilling site under direct supervision. This qualification has been designed to be relevant to all sectors within the drilling industry. It has been made flexible to allow study or training to take place within a variety of drilling environments. Graduates will be qualified in the drilling environment in which they studied or trained. Assist in safely moving equipment about the drilling site under supervision. Communicate effectively in a drilling environment. This certificate can lead to the New Zealand Certificate in Drilling (Level 4). Page 1 of 5 This qualification is intended to allow equivalency with the Certificate II drilling qualifications within the Australian Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package (RII09), ie: Employment pathway RII21109 Certificate II in Drilling Oil/Gas (On shore) RII20909 Certificate II in Drilling Operations RII21009 Certificate II in Drilling Oil/Gas (Off shore). Holders of this certificate are able to work at an entry-level under supervision within the drilling industry environment that their programme of study or industry training programme was completed. Some of the roles in which they could be employed include: Greenhat, Trainee, Lease-Hand, Roughneck, and Offsider. Qualification specifications Qualification award This qualification may be awarded by the NZ Motor Industry Training Organisation (Inc) as the qualification developer and the industry training organisation arranging training leading to the qualification under section 5 of the Industry Training and Apprenticeships Act 1992. This qualification may also be awarded by an education organisation accredited under section 250 of the Education Act 1989 to deliver an approved programme leading to this qualification. The formal document certifying the award of this qualification will display the NZQF logo and may also include the name and/or logo of the awarding education organisation. Evidence requirements for assuring consistency TEOs will supply evidence that demonstrates how the graduate outcomes are being met. Evidence should include: - - - - Credit transfer and recognition of prior learning arrangements Qualification Reference 2621 © New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2015 surveys of graduates and employers which determine how well graduates are meeting the graduate outcomes in the workplace reports from consultation with major industry associations to ensure graduates are meeting their member’s needs demonstration of effective processes to identify changes in industry practice and training requirements. For example, meeting minutes from industry advisory groups any other evidence, including workplace evidence, that shows how the graduate outcomes are being met. Education organisations must have policies and procedures in place for managing credit transfer, and assessing recognition of prior learning and recognition of current competency. These policies and procedures, and information about associated fees, must be available to the candidate prior to enrolment. Page 2 of 5 To facilitate credit transfer, education organisations must clearly demonstrate the equivalency or comparability between each of the outcomes in the graduate profile, and the assessment components of their programmes. Minimum standard of achievement and standards for grade endorsements The minimum standard of achievement required for award of the qualification will be the achievement of all graduate outcomes in the graduate profile through successful completion of an NZQA-approved programme. This can be achieved through use of listed New Zealand coversheet unit standards linked to Australian Units of Competency, or through use of equivalent New Zealand assessment standards. Conditions for programme context To achieve the New Zealand Certificate in Drilling (Level 3) graduates will complete programmes of study or industry training programmes that are specific to their drilling environment. Programmes must reflect the specific drilling environment that the trainee is operating in, or intending to operate in. Unit standard 9680 Credits 5 Unit standard 9681 Optional Transition information Replacement information This qualification replaced the National Certificate in Drilling – Nonhydrocarbon (Driller’s Assistant) (Level 2) with an optional strand in Blast Hole/Mineral Production and Development [Ref: 1331] and the National Certificate in Drilling – Hydrocarbon (Floorman) (Level 2) with strands in Off Shore Drilling, and On Shore Drilling [Ref: 1335]. People currently working towards either of the replaced qualifications must complete its requirements, or transfer to a programme of study or training leading to this qualification, by 31 December 2018.
