The aviation industry will benefit by having Ramp Operators who are capable of working with minimal supervision. Outcome Statement Graduate profile Graduates of this qualification will be able to: - use effective communications to contribute to group performance - apply appropriate literacy and numeracy skills relevant to the ramp operations role - handle dangerous goods and hazardous items as required by international aviation regulations - comply with security rules applicable to airports when performing ramp operations - use operational and theoretical knowledge to safely and appropriately enable the loading and off-loading from various aircraft types, ensuring correct load distribution on an aircraft, the preparation of rolling stock, and operating of necessary Ground Support Equipment (GSE) in support of the ramp operation. Education pathway This qualification can provide a pathway to other training opportunities with a ground handling service provider. Holders of this qualification may progress into a supervisory or management role within Ramp Operations, for which a range of management qualifications and/or training opportunities are available, depending on the needs and aspirations of the organisation and the individual. These could include national and/or New Zealand qualifications on the NZQA framework and/or in-house training for Ramp Operations leadership roles. Employment pathway Holders of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge to work as ramp operators. They may be involved in the ground handling of multiple aircraft types of varying sizes. With the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience, holders may progress to become Aircraft Loading Leads, Push Back Operators, or Load Controllers. They may further progress to become Ramp Services Managers. Qualification Developer ServiceIQ Qualification Specification Qualification award This qualification is awarded by the accredited provider. The formal certification document will include the NZQF logo, ServiceIQ, and the logo of any tertiary education organisation offering a programme of training leading to the award of this qualification. Evidence associated with achievement of qualification outcomes will include the following: employer surveys to determine if graduates of the qualifications meet the graduate profile outcomes evidence of effective processes to ensure programmes continue to meet current industry needs a range of workplace evidence demonstrating that graduates meet the qualification profile outcomes any other relevant evidence as appropriate. As this qualification is different in design and content to the replaced National qualification, it is the industry and SSB's preference and recommendation for trainees to enter into programmes leading to the new qualification. Trainees currently enrolled in programmes leading to the replaced qualification may either complete the requirements by 31 December 2015 or transfer to the new qualification. The last date for entry into programmes leading to the replaced qualification is 31 December 2013. The last date for award of the replaced qualification is 31 December 2015 at which time it will be designated as discontinued.
