NZQF NQ Ref Version 1638 Page 1 of 3 1 National Diploma in Aviation (Risk Management) Level 5 Credits 120 Purpose The National Diploma in Aviation (Risk Management) [Ref: 1638] is designed to introduce the principles, framework, and process of managing risk in an aviation environment. The qualification is intended to be applicable for any level of an organisation in the aviation industry. The qualification is aimed at people working in the aviation industry who work: with, or as, an Aviation Regulator; or at a Board, Executive, or senior management level in an aviation organisation. The qualification comprises only compulsory standards to align with the structured method of training required by the industry. The standards introduce the concepts of managing risk (including identifying, analysing, evaluating, treating, and monitoring and reviewing risk); communicating and consulting in the risk management process, and establishing the context for risk management, in an aviation environment. People holding this qualification will be able to apply risk management into their existing workplace activities, or be able to move into a field which primarily addresses risk. They will be able to relate risk management to governance, and safety and quality management, allowing for a greater understanding of how to improve an aviation organisation’s risk management performance. People who have met the requirements of this qualification may also choose to undertake study towards the National Diploma in Aviation (Regulatory Oversight and Governance) [Ref: 1637], and/or the National Diploma in Aviation (Safety Management Systems) [Ref: 1639]. Special Notes It is recommended that candidates should be able to draw on present or recent experiences regarding risk management, primarily for an aviation environment. It is recommended that candidates possess basic word processing skills and knowledge of the New Zealand aviation industry.
