What is Domestic Violence?
California Domestic Violence Prevention Act
defines domestic violence as threatened or
actual abuse from someone you have had a
close relationship (i.e. spouse, former spouse,
someone you date or have dated, someone
whom you are related by blood, marriage or
adoption). Abuse can be verbal, psychological
or physical.

WHAT IS SEXUAL ASSAULT?
SEXUAL ASSAULT IS A CRIME IN WHICH A PERSON IS
THREATENED , COERSED, FORCED, SUBDUED BY ALCHOL
OR OTHER DRUGS , OR TRICKED INTO COMPLYING WITH A
SEXUAL ACT AGAINST HER/ HIS WILL.
THESE CRIMES MAY INCLUDE OBSCENE PHONE CALLS,
INDECENT EXPOSURE, SEXUAL BATTERY, RAPE, ORAL
COPULATION STALKING (INCLUDING ONLINE). SEXUAL
ASSAULTS, INCLUDING THOSE COMMITTED BY
“ACQUAINTENCES” OR “DATES” ARE CRIMES PUNISHABLE
BY ARREST AND IMPRISONMENT, SUSPENSION OR EXPULSION
FROM THE UNIVERSITY, AND/OR TERMINATION OF
EMPLOYMENT.
A CRIMINAL CONVICTION IS NOT REQUIRED BEFORE THE
UNIVERSITY PURSUES STUDENT OR EMPLOYEE DISCIPLINE.
WHAT IS SEXUAL HARASSMENT?
SEXUAL HARASSMENT OCCURS WHEN A STUDENT, STAFF OR
FACULTY MEMBER OF SFSU INTERFERES WITH ANOTHER’S
ACCESS TO EDUCATION OR EMPLOYMENT BY GIVING THEM
UNWANTED SEXUAL ATTENTION.
