The description of the law making processes demonstrates
detailed understanding by including relevant supporting detail
such as:
 case studies, examples, statistics, time frames;
 minor steps in the processes for each system.
Criteria for Excellence
The description demonstrates insightful understanding of law
making processes by comparing both law making systems,
supported by relevant detail.

Definition
Law making processes are a series of actions, changes, or functions resulting in the
creation of new law or the repeal or amendment of existing law.

This unit standard can be awarded with an Achieved, Merit, or Excellence grade. For
the Achieved grade to be awarded, all outcomes must be achieved as specified in
the outcome statement(s). For Merit or Excellence grades to be awarded, the
candidate must meet the Merit or Excellence criteria specified above.

Evidence requirements
1.1
Law making processes are identified and described in relation to the key steps
in different law making systems.
law making systems may include but are not limited to – national
systems from New Zealand, local systems from New Zealand,
international, historical, customary;
all key steps for, and people and/or institutions involved in, the law
making processes within two systems.
