UNITED NATIONS LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATIONS PROGRAMME LEARNING SERVICE, OHRM LEARNING ENGLISH THROUGH LEARNING ABOUT THE UNITED NATIONS Course Code: E6C4/1 Duration: This course is held twice a week for twelve weeks. (Please check posted schedules for dates and time.) Description: Have you ever wanted to learn more about the extensive work of the United Nations? Using a specially created set of online learning materials, participants will engage in both “live” discussion and interactive online exercises to expand their knowledge of the work of the Organization as they expand their knowledge of the English language. Participants who complete the course by attending the required number of hours and by doing the required number of weekly assignments will receive a certificate of completion. Objectives: Eligibility: This course will provide participants with the opportunity to: Increase their vocabulary and reading skills through specially created reading comprehension exercises and games Practise their speaking skills by engaging in interactive group exercises, summarizing and discussing the information they have learned Sharpen their listening comprehension skills by viewing selected United Nations webcasts and doing accompanying comprehension exercises Polish their grammar skills by reviewing hard-to-master linguistic items including: conditionals, perfect tenses, two-word verbs, modals and prepositions Develop a set of model United Nations written communications (letters, memoranda, e-mail messages and a short report).
