Meeting opened with a brief introduction of members, what student organizations they are representing, and what they did this summer. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and there were no changes to report. Minutes were approved unanimously by all. Area Reports The Fitness/Wellness & Aquatics Coordinator introduced the Zumba Wellness Workshop that will be held on Thursday September 20th from 12pm-1pm. They are also having a Functional Fitness class on the first Friday of every month. The Functional Fitness classes are personal training sessions that will focus on how to work out a specific body part properly and safely. These classes are replacing Introduction to the Strength and Conditioning Room. Private swim lessons will also be available for students, faculty, and staff this semester. In addition, there are still job openings for Group X instructors. The final Group X schedule is online and there has been a few new classes added. The Intramural and Sport Clubs Coordinator reported that fall intramural sports league registration has been open and the deadline to register is September 14th, 2012. There have been a few pre-season games for referee training. The free agents meeting for intramurals will be held on Thursday, September 13 and the captain’s meetings will be held between September 18th and September 21st 2012. The $20 forfeit deposit policy has been working out well. Sports Clubs are currently registering and their deadline to register is September 30th. There should be 11 sport clubs this year. Also, there has been interest in new sports clubs, with a possible addition of Disc Golf, 1|Page Ultimate Frisbee, Women’s Water Polo, and Fencing. The following events will be coming up: 3 on 3 Basketball tournament on September 21st and the Costume Dodgeball tournament on October 30th. Our Facilities and Informal Recreation Coordinator informed the Board that informal recreation has started. Informal recreation consists of Basketball, Indoor Soccer, Badminton, and Volleyball. The programming hours have changed and to check online to see changes. For student organizations, you can go into EMS, create an account, and start requesting space in the gym. The Office Coordinator has two office assistants and is looking to hire one more. The goal for this semester is to increase outreach to students. This includes increase in traffic on the Campus Recreation Facebook page. There should also be a Department video made by the spring semester. Committee Selection and Updates The Programming and Assessment committee is in charge of assessing our departments programming throughout the semester through the means of surveys. There will be one made for the Campus Recreation Department as a whole. This subcommittee is looking for new volunteers. Shibin and Anne showed interest in volunteering for this committee. The Administration committee has been offline for a while but will be in charge reviewing applications for the Paula Moran Scholarship. Anne showed interest in this committee. The Recreation and Wellness Center committee works with the Associated Student Body and The Caesar Chavez Student Center. They have been meeting with architects to put the design together for the new center. Brandon Wolucka gave an update on the last meeting. They focused on having more room for outdoor fields in the design, what program components will look like, and how all these parts will fit on the site. Ryan Fetzer, Tina Rossi, and Brandon Wolucka made a trip to Cal Poly SLO’s Recreation Center. They will also be checking out Sacramento and Chico state’s Recreation and Wellness Centers. We want to make our Recreation and Wellness Center very inviting to all students and other members. Informational Topics Ajani has moved on to get his doctorate. The position for the Director of Campus Recreation is open and we are receiving applications for the position at this time. We are looking to fill the position as early as November, but it may be longer. Joseph Greenwell is Interim Director at this time Construction on the Recreation Field at the Soto site has begun and its predicted completion is the spring 2013 semester. This site will expand outdoor recreation programming. The Dean of Students Retreat will be held in Santa Cruz on September 29th through September 30th. Transportation and food will be provided. Transportation to the retreat is expected to leave from San Francisco at 8am on the 9/29 and expected to be back to San Francisco in the early afternoon of 9/30. Action Items – Announcements 2|Page There are three new designs for the intramural championship shirt. There was a vote for the top two designs.
