Strategic purpose statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide bicycle service
technicians with the knowledge and skills to operate as a bicycle
mechanic within a bicycle workshop/retail environment.
Graduates will be able to work safely, under broad guidance, to
industry standards for bicycle diagnosis and repairs and offer
customised solutions to customers within the bicycle sales,
service and repair sector.

Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

carry out diagnostic procedures, and repair and/or overhaul
a range of bicycle components and systems under broad
guidance; and inspect frames and forks

effectively communicate with customers to interpret their
needs and make recommendations for component and
system solutions based on end-user requirements

apply design principles and ergonomic considerations to
select and tune components and systems of a bicycle to fit a
rider
-
apply wheel-building techniques for a specific purpose and
end-user
-
conduct research to plan and price a bicycle build for a
specific purpose and end-user.
Education pathway
This qualification may lead into further study towards retail,
business, or tourism qualifications.
Employment and/or

Graduates of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge
to work under broad guidance in roles such as bicycle mechanics
or team mechanics, or graduates may choose to specialise

This qualification will be awarded by the education organisation
with which the learner is enrolled, provided that organisation is
accredited under Section 250 of the Education Act 1989 with an
approved programme towards this qualification.

Assessment of learning outcomes should be predominantly
skills-based, and should include observation of tasks where there
is naturally occurring evidence which contributes to multiple
outcomes.

reflect real or simulated workshops with the full range of
recommended bicycle tooling to meet industry standards.
