They also have fruit trees and grow apples and cherries. The market garden sells to supermarkets but also has a road-side stall. Sam and Jenny were born in China and have been in NZ for 40 years. Sam speaks good English but Jenny does not. The nursery also employs four full-time staff: - Their son, who is aged 25. He tends to do a lot of the work that involves heavy machinery, such as driving the tractor. - Two women in their thirties, who do a lot of the grading work and manage the stall. - A teenage boy who has recently left school. When he was employed he asked to be signed on as a trainee with the Primary ITO with the aim of achieving a Level 2 Horticulture qualification. Over summer, large numbers of students are employed for fruit picking. 377 version 7 Student guidelines ASM version 2 Page 4 of 5 November 2015 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 Workplace 2 – Mountain View Care Home Mountain View Care Home is a Presbyterian Aged Care Home. The sorts of duties carried out by the Care Assistants include helping at meal times, getting people to and from their tables, feeding people who need assistance, helping people to and from their rooms if they need it, fetching things from residents’ rooms if they are unable to collect things for themselves, toileting assistance and generally helping residents enjoy their stay. There are approximately thirty residents in each of the rest home, hospital wing and dementia unit. Residents are a mixture of men and women, all are over the age of 65. Three of the residents are Māori and two are originally from Samoa. All of these residents have family members who visit. During your shift you will be working in a team of four or five. The care home employs about 30 care assistants altogether and the people working in your team will change from day to day. Most of the care assistants are women, although there are five men. The ages of the care home staff range between 22 and 62. About ten workers are less than thirty years old and about thirty workers are older than 45. Three of the care staff are from India and three from the Philippines. They are qualified nurses in their own country and are working as care assistants while they undertake further study to gain NZ qualifications. Two of the care staff are Maori, three are Pasifika. As it is a Presbyterian home, a grace, prayer or karakia is spoken before every meal.
