COLLEGE MINUTES AND OTHER CURRICULAR ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION
There were no curricular items for discussion.
OLD BUSINESS
1. EET #10
The CUC tabled these minutes at the September 16, 2010 meeting. Regarding course revision
ELE 429, it was suggested that “as well as” be changed to “and must” (3rd line). Regarding
new electives for the B.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering, documentation is still needed
from affected departments regarding the capacity of the courses being added and courses listed
under the “technical” heading need to be reconsidered. Regarding the Minor in Sustainable
Engineering, this has already received all the necessary approvals, so the college was asked if it
could be withdrawn from these minutes so they can go through. There is nothing more to
consider at this time.
2. EDU #14
The CUC tabled these minutes pending clarification of APASC’s concerns from their meeting
on 10/13/10. Nothing more has been received at this time.
3. CEET #4
These minutes were tabled for several reasons. Several CUC members wondered if there
weren’t already existing courses to meet requirements instead of MEE 454 and MEE 455
including TECH and ENVS courses. Also, although Dr. Mirman stated in an e-mail that these
MEE courses do not duplicate anything in Technology, he suggested that the descriptions be
revised to specify that these are indeed engineering courses and not technology courses so as
not to confuse students. The college also needs to provide evidence that Computer Science and

Environmental Studies approve of the addition of their courses to Emph. 6 for the degree in
technology.
Regarding the MEE courses, a memo from Dr. Coller was provided to the CUC. It was also
communicated that ENVS is OK with their courses being added, but there still is nothing from
CSCI regarding adding their courses to the program.
Aase made a motion, seconded by Wallace, to APPROVE THE UNDERGRADUATE
CURRICULAR ITEMS IN COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND ENGINEERING
TECHNOLOGY #4 (10/28/10). A point was made that several recent matters brought to the
CUC could have been easily resolved if the interested parties communicated earlier in the
process. Motion passed with a majority vote in favor.
4. CLAS #5
The revisions to the minor in International Studies were tabled due to concerns from the
College of Business, see below. The CUC would like to see CLAS address Business’s
concerns and see the two colleges come to an agreement on a title, with evidence that all
parties involved (e.g., Economics) approve.

Hi Gerry,
After much deliberation today, the College Curriculum Committee strongly recommends a change to the name of the
track currently labeled "Global Studies in Commerce" in the revised International Studies and Engagement minor. As
you know, we have had long standing concern with the title "International Business Studies" track as students could
pursue this track and take no business courses. The use of the alternate but somewhat equivalent term "commerce"
does not change our concern. We suggest "Global Studies in Economics" as this is just as descriptive of options in the
track. Please talk to me or Brian Mackie if you need more background.
Thanks, Beth

After some discussion between the two colleges, an updated proposal was provided to the CUC
as well as a communication from the College of Business that they approved the latest version
of revisions to this minor. Wallace made a motion, seconded by Aase, to APPROVE THE
LATEST REVISIONS TO THE MINOR IN INTERNATIONAL STUDIES. Motion passed
with a majority vote in favor.
5. Adding courses from another college/checking on course capacity. To next be addressed at the
February 10, 2011 meeting.
6. Double major; major/minor/certificate requirements. To next be addressed at the February 10,
2011 meeting.
