Developmentally Appropriate Activities Term Project

You will submit an assortment of 1 daily schedule, 1 classroom design, and
10 theme-related activities that are developmentally appropriate for one particular
age (2’s, 3’s, 4’s) or grade (K-4) for Curriculum Resources. Please follow these
guidelines:

Before you describe your activities, summarize in 3-4 sentences the
developmental milestones for children in of your selected age or grade in
the areas of language arts and math. Do this one time at the beginning of
the project. (For example, if you are looking at language and literacy in
first grade students, summarize what you expect them to be capable of
doing at this level.) Be sure to incorporate information discussed in
class.)
Select 10 activities centered around one theme for the age group or
grade selected. (4 Language Arts, 2 Math, 1 Science, 1 Social Studies, 1
Art or Music, and 1 Sensory Play or Gross Motor Activity),
Use the Lesson Plan format to write the lessons in your own words.
Using cut and paste from a website is the unauthorized use of another’s
work and will not be given credit for this assignment (grade of zero).
List the materials needed for the activity.
Select one adaptation for a child with special needs at the end of the
activity or lesson.
Document the source of your activity or tell if you adapted your activity
from another source. Print out and include the activity if taken from a
website or book.
Include the daily schedule for your age group or grade and one design of
the classroom layout using graph paper.
This totals 10 lessons, 1 schedule, and 1 classroom design for a total of
12 items in your project.
Please type your activities (font size 12 or 14), leaving appropriate spacing in
between. Proof-read your work, and see the instructor if you have questions.
The book Developmentally Appropriate Practice for Children in Programs from
Birth to Age Eight (Bredekamp and Copple, 1997) might be a helpful resource for
what to expect for children in these age groups. In addition, the George
Memorial Library has useful resources.
