Division of Research Services
Introduction
Research Services supports educational research and academic activities by providing
technical consultation, engineering, manufacturing, design, and repair services. We
maintain a wide range of diagnostic and manufacturing tools, equipment, and skilled
technicians. In addition, we offer contracts for preventive maintenance on research and
scientific equipment.
Equipment Repair, Fabrication and Maintenance
Research Services is a well-equipped mechanical and electronic shop that supports all
departments in the repair, maintenance, and fabrication of electronic and mechanical
instrumentation and components.
Mechanical Fabrication
Research Services provides high quality, precision machine work on a variety of
materials including metals and plastics. We are an excellent resource for assistance in
the repair, maintenance and fabrication of complex, specialized scientific or mechanical
equipment. In addition, we can assist in equipment assembly and rebuilding.
Calibration
Research Services provides calibration services for laboratory research equipment such
as scales, thermometers and lasers.
Fume Hood and Safety Cabinet Testing
Research Services provides testing and certification of chemical fume hoods and
biological safety cabinets. Testing is performed in accordance with standards from the
National Sanitation Foundation (NSF 49) to ensure proper operation and adequate
airflow.
Autoclaves, Dishwasher, Dryers, and Ice Machines
Research Services provides preventive maintenance and repair services for research
support equipment, including autoclaves, dishwashers, glassware dryers, and ice
machines. This support equipment is maintained in the 801, SCLF and 911 buildings.
Instrument Sharpening
Research Services provides repairs and sharpening services for surgical and fine
instruments.
High Purity DI Water Systems
Research Services provides installation and maintenance services of high purity
deionized water systems in research laboratories. In addition, we maintain two large DI
systems serving dozens of laboratories in the SCLF and 825 west addition buildings.
Dry Ice, Liquid Nitrogen and Ultra Low Freezer Storage
Research Services offers dry ice, liquid nitrogen and ultra-low freezer storage. Dry ice
and liquid nitrogen are stocked for back-up use to prevent shortages of these supplies.
In addition, we offer secured freezer space to safely store your materials in the event of
a freezer breakdown.
