What employers want from CV’S?
Below are some of the comments that employers have made about CV’s they have received:
Give details…



Some CVs can be vague in terms of specific accomplishments which leads us to the long process of
determining whether anything of substance lies behind statements like “improved office
processes…” It does not take up too much space to add, “By doing X, which resulted in Y…” Give
specifics and be clear and precise.
Highlight any applicable experience required for a specific job. Ensure CV format is easy to follow.
Add quantifiable results to CV’s.
Things to include…



Students should show how they have been involved in extra-curricular activities, have achieved
good grades and coped with pressure. We want to see well-rounded people.
Don’t waste valuable CV space with detailed computer skills. This can be discussed in detail during
the interview.
Do not include course work on your CV: it takes up too much space. Preference is for work
experience details.
The length…

Do not send in pages and pages. A CV should ideally cover two sides of A4 paper. Some CV’s are
discounted for being too long.
The basics…
