Background:
The Graduate Internship Scheme provides a fixed-term employment opportunity for students
who have successfully graduated to Degree level from the University of Bolton. This
opportunity is open to UoB graduates who have completed during the academic year
2015/16.
The Scheme is intended for graduates to gain valuable experience of working within a busy
customer facing environment. The University’s intention is to create opportunities across a
number of functions, which will enable graduates from a range of disciplines to gain and
develop transferable skills within the work environment.
The primary contact for the scheme will be the Head of Careers and Employability. The
placement, will however, have an identified line manager within the dedicated Academic
Group/Professional Support Service to which they are assigned.
There will be a relevant period of induction so that the placement is integrated into the
University’s business processes. In particular, certain mandatory training will be put in place
and a mentor allocated, where it is considered appropriate.
The role holder, in conjunction with their line manager, will be expected to continually
monitor and evaluate their progress to be able to demonstrate a transferable skills-set at the
completion of the placement with the University.
The role holder will be expected to have an understanding and awareness of the
requirements in respect to Health and Safety at Work, together with the principles of the
legislative Acts relating to Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Bribery.
Main Function of the Internship:
The aim is to give the role holder an opportunity to encounter a wide range of
internal/external activities that are undertaken on a day to day basis within the University.
This is an opportunity for recent University of Bolton graduates to develop the skills and
experience required for many potential graduate professions.
The role will require interaction with University staff, students, graduates and organisations
external to the institution. The post holder will also need to be able to work outside of normal
hours when required.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
To assist with the implementation and delivery of the newly formed University Sports
Strategy document titled ‘Bolton Moving’. You will be responsible for providing insight data
by means of a University Activity Survey which will identify current trends, barriers to
participation and highlight potential activities for future inclusion.
Other key tasks include:

Liaise with the sports strategy group to develop a suitable survey, gain a
representative sample, collate and report findings in order to help deliver the
strategy.

Raise awareness of the University Sports Centre and student clubs, facilities and
activities in order to increase the number of students engaging in enrichment
activities.

Assist in the delivery and promotion of sports activities around the campus and in
student halls of residence in relation to supporting students in growing and sustaining
student club activities.
Additional Information
1. Work flexibly and support other services at peak times, as directed by your line
manager.
2. To assist with the collection of data for the annual Destination of Leavers from Higher
Education Survey.
3. To work flexibly as part of the team, which may require working evenings and
weekends when required. To assist with open days and enrolment periods and cover
other areas in times of staff shortage.
4. Undertake other duties commensurate with the nature and grading of the role as
determined by your line manager.
