Wareham Senior High School CPSS Program Summer 2008 The CPSS Partnership Board, with representative members from each of the community organizations and school administrators, will organize and meet immediately upon the awarding of the grant. Assuming grant funds are awarded in the winter of 2007, the following timeline will be followed for the design and implementation of the Wareham Collaborative Success Plan, targeting at risk ninth and tenth grade students: i. September/October: CPSS Partnership Board met to review the success of the summer program components. Also discussed were measures to improve upon the program for the upcoming year. Specific organizations take leading roles in the delivery of services and planning of activities. For example, Rhonda Josey of the Foursquare Church volunteered to recruit speakers for the upcoming CPSS grant. ii. November-February: The CPSS Partnership Board meets monthly for communication and planning of the complete design and implementation of the CPSS summer program. The main components of this grant proposal will be shared as a starting point for these discussions. iii. March/April: Posting for project coordinators and tutors will be completed. Project coordinators and/or tutors will plan and design the project based curriculum that will be used for the rising grade eight students. The wellness sessions will be planned and coordinated with Dr. Mendes and his associates. The websites and the brochures will be updated. Moodle and district web site training will take place in order that project based curriculum and student work can be accessible on line. Multiple means of communication will begin to advertise the program and the need for mentors iv. May/June: At risk student swill be identified and their families contacted and invited to an introductory event explaining the CPSS and the opportunities that are available to them. The social worker/counselor will arrange for initial meetings with parents, families and students. The first wellness workshop is offered as an open forum to discuss healthy lifestyles. The CPSS Partnership Board continues to meet for coordination and organization of all activities of the CPSS. Mentors will be assigned to students after taking part in a mentor training program. v. July/August: High school students will attend the Wareham High School Summer School program and/or tutoring sessions in support of these courses. The rising eighth students will take part in project based Basic Components of CPSS Summer Program: One-on-one student mentoring by trained volunteers from partnering community organizations Individual and group counseling sessions for students Academic tutoring and remediation for high school students in support of summer school success Project based learning for rising grade eight students focusing on math and English instruction Freshman orientation for rising grade eight students with focus on organization and high school readiness skills Job/career assessment, education, and exploration through both computer software programs and job shadowing with local business leaders and medical personnel; Bridges Career Portfolio exploration of future college and career opportunities Field trip to UMass Dartmouth Workshops, which strengthen ELA and math skills, for students in a variety of topics
