Please see the “Transitional Guidance on Identification, Assessment, Placement, and Reclassification of English Language Learners August 2013” as found on http://www.doe.mass.edu/ell/guidance_laws.html.. For 2014-15, the district will discontinue the role of ELL teaching assistant to deliver some of the direct ELD services. We will expect our full-time, certified ESL teachers to deliver direct services to ELLs and to partner with teachers in SEI instruction. In placing ELLs in classrooms and scheduling the services of the ESL teachers, we will make every attempt to meet the state requirements in direct service hours. 2) During the summer of 2014, district ESL teachers will meet and develop a more fully articulated ESL curriculum for direct ESL instruction which is aligned to both the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and the WIDA ELD standards. The frame of this curriculum will be completed during summer and ongoing curriculum development will continue during the 2004-2015 school year under the supervision of the assistant superintendent, who is also the ESL coordinator.
