NEW FACULTY FALL 2014 – AUGUST 11, 2014 Welcome to Florida Tech. Our online platform ACCESS Florida Tech is reached through www.fit.edu, logging in with your TRACKS user name and password. This is your most valuable academic and administrative tool. The Faculty tab in ACCESS has many tools and links, including to the student records system (PAWS). From the faculty tab you can see final exam schedules, catalogs and the campus calendar among other resources. The link to the class schedules is available from your “Work Tools” tab under Student Tools. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with ACCESS and the tabs at the top that allow you to work quickly and effectively. Midterm and Final Grading— Online grading is the official mode of submitting grades. Faculty of 1000- and 2000-level courses enter students’ midterm grades during the ninth week of the term by an announcement from the Academic Support Center. The announcement to enter final grades comes from the Registrar before the end of the term. Faculty Schedules—Under your faculty tab in ACCESS, your schedule is displayed for the term selected, including all classes assigned and information such as enrollment, times and location. Class Lists—The Faculty tab allows viewing of all students in the faculty's course for a particular CRN. And also provides access to other information about the student: student level, degree, major and class level. Address information can be viewed by clicking on the student's name. You can send either individual or class emails. A printout of the official class roster is sent to you by the Registrar at the end of the second week of classes. Academic History—Faculty who do not have general advising responsibilities (adjuncts, for instance) have access to academic history for only the students they teach. Faculty who are also advisors may access academic history of any student. Contact me if you don’t have the access you need. Advising—The advising flag indicator is set each term to allow undergraduate advisees to register online. Graduate students may register without advisor approval. Degree Evaluation—CAPP is a powerful online advising and planning tool that can be used by both student and advisor. Release of Student Information—Includes information on the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) that protects students’ academic records. Please be aware that posting grades by social security number or student number in a public place is in violation of FERPA. Don’t release student information to a third party without the student’s permission. Registrar Contact Information—A list of Registrar’s Office staff with email addresses and phone numbers is available from the Registrar’s homepage at www.fit.edu/registrar. Fall 2014 Class Schedule—The Class Schedule by term (www.fit.edu/schedule-of-classes/fall) shows enrollment capacity and totals and is viewable from the Registrar’s homepage and ACCESS.
