AAC Communication Log 09/09/2015 Item Fire Drills to Occur During First Three Weeks of Fall Term Responsible & Contact Thuy Fleming Begin Date End Date Notes The CNM Safety & Security Office will coordinate mandatory fire drills on all campuses at various times during the first three weeks of the Fall Term. The following are guidelines for faculty, staff, and students during the drills: Prior to a drill, faculty should plan an evacuation route with the class and have the class roster ready. When the fire alarm goes off, everyone MUST exist the building. Quickly grab your backpack/personal belongings then calmly and orderly leave the building. Close the door behind you. Do not use the elevator. If you see people with mobility impairment, help them into the stairwell or area of refuge. Then call Security at ext. 4-3001. Stay with them until a security officer arrives. Once outside the building, follow directions from fire drill staff and proceed to the designated Assembly Area. Faculty should check the class roster to ensure all students are accounted for at the Assembly Area. Return to the building only after given an “all clear” from Security. TRIO Student Support Services to Open New Location at Montoya Campus Magda Martinez Sept 01 CNM will be opening a new TRIO Student Support Services office at the Montoya Campus starting Sept. 1. It will become the second TRIO office at CNM – the other has been at Main Campus since 2001. The new Montoya location was made possible by a recently announced grant award from the U.S. Department of Education. Federal TRIO program grants run on five-year grant cycles. TRIO serves low-income, disabled and/or first-generation college students who are determined to succeed in college, graduate and transfer to a four-year university. TRIO Student Support Services include: academic, career and personal coaching; one-on-one tutoring in English and math; college success workshops and educational activities; TRIO computer lab and study area; cultural and educational events; student leadership opportunities; networking and community support from people with similar goals. Central Lot to Become Staging Area for A Building Renovation Disability and Reasonable Accommodatio n Section of Employee Handbook Changed The contractor for the A Building renovation has a staging area located in the Central Lot that will be in place for approximately three months for the duration of the demolition. Signage to direct folks around the fencing will be posted. People with disabilities are to use the handicap parking spaces in the Central Lot to access the South and West buildings only. They should use the handicap parking spots in the North Lot to access LSA, North Building and East Building. David Beach The Department of Labor has applauded CNM’s work in collaborating with other grant partners and taking the lead in implementing a common core curriculum for information technology occupations. Part-time faculty members who are interested in extending their pay over the fall break need to complete a deferred pay authorization form and submit it to the Payroll Office prior to the start of the term. CNM will manually extend pay for full-term classes if a part-time instructor has insurance deductions, prior to the beginning of the term, and is teaching at least one full-term course. CNM in Process of Changing Food Options – Food Trucks Arriving on Main, Montoya and Westside Campuses First Group of CNM Nursing Students Graduate Using New Statewide Curriculum Phil Bustos Diane Evans-Pryor CNM’s food offerings are changing at Main, Montoya and Westside campuses, and now include food trucks. Food trucks are currently serving, but schedules are still being formalized. The food trucks will be located in the following areas: Main Campus – along the new pedestrian walkway just west of the Student Services Center and Max Salazar Hall. Montoya Campus – in the parking lot next to the H and K buildings, and in the parking lot to the north of the J Building. Westside Campus – in the parking area along the roundabout from the Universe Blvd. entrance. The former cafeteria on Main Campus in the Student Services Center is no longer operating. Food options, such as beverages, coffee, snacks, cold sandwiches and pastries, are now available in the Student Resource Center Suncatfé, which is located on the first floor of the SRC next to the Library. Similar food options are available on the Montoya Campus in the H Building and on the Westside Campus in the MJG Building and the Westside I Suncatfé location. All of the indoor food locations will be open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. They will be open on Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. In the next few weeks, breakfast burritos, salads, fresh fruit, hot dogs, nachos and other items will be added to the menu. Look for more updates about food services soon, including a link to food truck schedules. Eight CNM nursing students recently graduated with Bachelor of Science Degrees and Associate of Applied Science Degrees in Nursing during a ceremony held at the University of New Mexico. They were the first CNM students to graduate from the new statewide curriculum that was created by the New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium, an organization in which CNM was a leading partner. Mandatory Employee Training Has New Home in CNM Talent Management Learning Cloud Jonathan Bartlett CNM’s Talent Management Learning Cloud is now live for the college’s Mandatory Training Core Curriculum, which includes FERPA, Hazard Communication, Unlawful Harassment Prevention for Higher Education Staff (Sexual Harassment Awareness), Information Security for the General User, Campus Safety and Emergency Response, and Title IX. Other training courses will continue to be added over the next 30 days. CNM employees (staff, faculty, and student employees/work studies) are able to view their training transcripts, register for courses and complete any outstanding items.
