CNM will present a video history titled “Students
Inspiring Change: A Look Back at Student
Activism,” which will showcase student activism
from the Civil Rights Era to the present. It will take
place on Thursday, Feb. 25, from 3-5 p.m. on Main
Campus in the Student Resource Center, Richard
Barr Boardroom. The event is designed to build
community on campus and provide a positive
platform for CNM students to have a dialogue about
the importance of activism and the impact it can
have on your community and society in general. The
event will also include a short performance by a
CNM African Dance class, refreshments and
information tables. For more information, email
arosnersalazar@cnm.edu.
Visit CNM Libraries’ Black History Month displays
focusing on continuity and change in the Civil
Rights movement from the 50’s into the present.
This year’s theme is “Students Inspiring Change.”

ITS is seeking help from CNM employees in testing
new software before it is installed across all CNM
campuses. As participants in the Pilot Program,
employees will test and provide feedback about
these new programs. The goal of the Pilot Program
is to sufficiently test new software in a variety of
CNM instructional and administrative environments.
ITS will be accepting up to 100 participants in each
for the following programs:

Internet Explorer 11 – It will be available soon
to Pilot users. The installation of Explorer 11 on
all CNM computers is targeted for Feb. 19.

Windows 10 and Office 16 – These will be
available for Pilot Users soon. The rollout of
Windows 10 and Office 16 on all CNM
computers is scheduled for late summer.
In the Fall Term, Media Production Services (MPS),
in collaboration with CNM faculty member Kat
Flies, debuted a new teaching technology called
CNM Glass. The heart of the system is a large lightfilled glass panel that works like a transparent
whiteboard. The presenter writes on the glass, facing
students, and the image is captured along with the
audio in a video file. The presenter can then upload
the file to YouTube or My Mediasite and share the
URL for Blackboard or webpage distribution. The
fall rollout was a huge success with close to 400
videos produced. If you would like to use this
innovative technology and create online lectures or
student support materials, please contact Peter
Hurley (phurley@cnm.edu) or Chris Cervantes
(jcervantes@cnm.edu). Book early, the time slots
are going fast! For more information and to see
CNM Glass in action, click here. The CNM Glass
studio is at the Advanced Technology Center, Room
136.
CNM employees who meet the Tax Help New
Mexico requirements – either having a household
income of $54,000 or less, or being age 65 or older –
can schedule appointments to receive help with tax
preparation on Fridays from Feb. 19 through April 8.
To schedule an appointment, call 224-4929 or email
gpenner@cnm.edu. Go to cnm.edu/taxhelp for
information on what to bring to the appointment.

Employees and students are invited to drop-in for
the “Weekly Mindfulness Hour” on Mondays from
1:30-2:30 p.m. on Main Campus in the Student
Resource Center, Room 204. It’s a “Feel-Good
Hour” with lasting benefits. Mindfulness guides will
help you retrain the brain beginning with a mild,
standing movement meditation. You will also get
inspiration from TED talks and hear experts talk
about brain physiology and learn about new ways to
know your “self.” For more information on the
Mindful CNM Community, visit cnm.edu/mindful.
On Friday, Feb. 19, CNM will host College Day,
formerly known as CTE Day. Help welcome high
school students to Main Campus by signing up to
volunteer. Volunteers will serve as tour guides for
visiting high school groups, and are essential to
providing an in-depth look at CNM’s degree and
certificate options. Students will go on a campus
tour, participate in hands-on activities, and learn
about CNM programs and resources. Faculty, staff,
and student employees are welcome to volunteer.
For more information or to sign up, click here.
The Spring 2016 Graduation Ceremony will be held
at Tingley Coliseum on Saturday, April 30. This is
the perfect opportunity to show your support for
CNM’s wonderful graduates and their academic
success. Click here to submit a request to order
graduation regalia or to state that you own your
regalia but plan to participate. The deadline to
submit the online form is 5 p.m. on Feb. 26. The
form must be submitted to order regalia and to
secure a parking permit for the event. There will be
an e-mail sent to you once your graduation regalia
has arrived. A parking pass and a map will be
provided. If you own regalia, a parking pass will be
required to enter the gates of EXPO New Mexico.
Email Graduation@cnm.edu for more information.
On Monday in Washington, D.C., CNM was
announced as a grant recipient for President
Obama’s 100,000 Strong in the Americas Initiative,
which is the White House’s “signature education
initiative in the Western Hemisphere designed to
foster region-wide prosperity through greater
international exchange of students.” The grant
coincides with CNM’s launch of its Global
Education program. Read more.

more about the program.
If you haven’t already, sign up for “AttentionCNM,”
the college’s emergency text alert system. It’s the
fastest way to be notified about an emergency
situation at CNM or a weather-related closure or
delay. To sign up, log in to myCNM and look for the
“AttentionCNM” logo in the right column. Click on
the link and enter your phone and email information.
It only takes a minute, and it can be a critical
resource in an emergency situation.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) includes both an
individual mandate and an employer mandate. The
individual mandate requires that most Americans
have qualifying healthcare coverage or potentially
be fined. The employer mandate requires employers
to offer health insurance benefits to its full-time
employees. Employees who work a minimum of 30
hours per week, or the equivalent thereof, are
considered full-time for this purpose. In addition, the
ACA requires CNM to track offers and denials of
coverage in order to complete tax forms that must be
submitted to the Internal Revenue Service and
employees annually.
Click here for more information about the new 1095C IRS Affordable Care Act Tax Form
Additionally, the Affordable Care Act requires
CNM to determine eligibility for health benefits for
part-time faculty in a new light. Many of the ACA
regulations are complex; therefore, the contents
herein shall provide a general overview of the
regulations’ applicability to part-time faculty.
Click here for ACA requirements and how it applies
to part-time faculty.

The Sustainability Curriculum Committee strives to
provide sustainability education to CNM students. In
Spring 2016 Term, we are offering our 3rd Annual
RecycleMania! RecycleMania “is a friendly
competition and benchmarking tool for college and
university recycling programs to promote waste
reduction activities to their campus communities”
(http://recyclemaniacs.org/about). We have
incorporated our lessons learned and your feedback,
so connecting our students to RecycleMania 2016 is
easier than ever. We humbly request your support to
make the following learning opportunities available
to our students.
1. Educational Events: We offer seminars every
week. They are available to anyone, and
participants will create something that will be
featured at the RecycleMania Student
Conference. Please encourage your students to
attend those seminar and become a presenter at
the conference.
2. Adopt-A-Recycling-Bin Contest: We are
replacing the existing green cardboard recycling
bins with newly decorated cardboard recycling
bins. To raise awareness and excitement around
this year’s RecycleMania, we are hosting a
contest. Any CNM member groups of three or
more individuals are eligible to adopt a new
recycling bin. Please encourage your colleagues
and students to adopt a bin.
3. Service Learning: We offer an in-house Service
Learning project. This year, we are soliciting
students who could educate K-12 students during
our featured event Mt. Recyclemore (formally
known as Mt. Trashmore). Please consider
offering Service Learning in your classes and
encourage your students to become our Service
Learning students.
4. Student Conference: We will host a student
conference at the end of the tournament. Please
encourage your students to participate in the
conference as a presenter or an attendee.
