General Education Goal #12 – The General Education Committee has proposed the deletion of this goal with the recommendation that some of it’s content might be integrated with Goal #14. This removes SOCL320 as a requirement on the Liberal Studies degree. Action Items: A motion offered by David Locascio, seconded by Maria Timmerman and passed by the committee presents the following curricular changes to the Liberal Studies major: Core delete add CHEM100 (2) and PHYS100 (2) PHYS103 (4) LSTM conc Science add CHEM101 (no longer double counts for Gen Ed) add Science electives – (8) EASC/GEOG275. Intro to GIS (4) EASC363, Physical Oceanography (4) BIOL4xx. Tropical Ecology (4) (by special permission) Additional course from the General Education list English add COMM101 (3) add ENGL elective (3) (open elective) Social Science add ECON111 or ECON115 (3) to LSTB (to bring LSTB in line with LSTM) add Social Science electives (3) ANTH 101 Introduction to Anthropology – (3) (does not double count for General Education) ANTH 325 Gender & Society (3) HIST 320 African American History (3) POSC 343 American Foreign Policy (3) POSC 350 The American Presidency (3) SOCL 302 SOCL 320 Sociology of Popular Culture (3) Sociology of Education (3) Math add CMSC121 or CMSC160 (3) to LSTB (to bring LSTB in line with LSTM) Add an Algebra endorsement option by adding one course – MATH343 (3) – to the existing middle school math concentration. (to be listed in the catalog along with the math conc.) LSTM non-conc delete CHEM100/PHYS100 or EASC300 (choice of 1) (This makes BIOL114 the required course in science.) limit core choice to ENGL382 or ENGL350 (This deletes ENGL380, 381, 483 and 479 as choices.) LSTB must meet all requirements of the Liberal Studies core plus the elementary and middle school specific requirements, with one exception: change from ENGL479 (with exemption from ENGL483) to either ENGL479 or ENGL483 (only one required) LSTE, LSTS add CSDS206 (3) to the list of electives – (by special permission) add SOCL320 (3) to the list of electives, LSTU delete ART/MUSC/THEA448 (3), KINS389 (3) and the elective LSTE, LSTB, LSTM, LSTS delete the BA degree option (All licensure-track students will earn BS.)
