T.J. Hansen Comp 1 9-8-2000 I have not had a good experience with poetry. First of all I do not understand most poetry. I just can’t grasp the meaning of the mushy ones about feelings and emotions. Don’t get me wrong there is some poetry that is good. Most of the poetry I like has a lot of rhyming. Then it flows so much better. I have read my fair share of poetry but I don’t get better at understanding it. In high school, we did not do a whole lot of poetry but we always had a poetry section in each grade. That is the time I didn’t even think, because I couldn’t understand poetry. My brain just went into shut down mode at that time. The poetry has to be pretty clean cut for me to understand it. Thinking about it I guess I don’t enjoy poetry that much. I think it is kind of boring. If we are reading Dr. Seuss then you know it is good poetry. His poetry just flows so well because of the rhyming. Although his poetry probably doesn’t make sense to begin with so you really can’t understand it in the first place. I would like to learn how to understand it better but I don’t know if it is possible. I don’t like writing much poetry because I don’t have a lot of feelings or emotions to be shown. If poems are read or discussed in class I would like to figure out what they mean so I am not lost all the time.
