The Death Penalty By Cody Wagner, Justin Funk, and Allen Pare Introduction The death penalty is a violation of human rights. It denies the right to human rights as stated in the Universal Declaration of Human rights. It is morally and ultimately wrong. Executions Their have been 725 executions since 1976, 42 in 2001, and 85 in 2000(Amnesty). Types of Executions There are five types of executions used in the united states, they are as follows: lethal injection, electrocution, gas chamber, hanging and fire squad(Amnesty). Juveniles and Mentally Challenged There have been 17 juveniles executed and 81 are on death row in the U.S.(amnesty). There have been 34 mental retarded people executed since 1977 in the U.S.(amnesty). Foreign Nationals Sixteen foreign nationals have been executed in the U.S.(amnesty). Thirty-four foreign nationals are currently on death row in the U.S.(amnesty). Race and Sex There have been 467 white victims, 70 black victims, 25 Asian victims, and 10 Latino victims executed in the U.S. since 1976(Death Penalty). Forty-six women have been executed (information center). Botched Executions There have been 51 botched executions (Death Penalty). Innocents There have been 98 people that have been on death row that were found innocent(CQ Researcher)!!!! Improper jurors Faulty evidence in the court Doctored crime seen Conclusion There have been many people on death row that have been later found innocent.
