Hunting is Good
Kurt Kalina
The hunting of wild animals is good for our society and our economy as well. I
feel that is one of these best things for both the animals and the people. Without hunting
the animals would wreak havoc all over our country. They would be very over
populated, and they would destroy hundreds of acres of crops. Making it very hard for
some families to be able to get by.
Many people are still against hunting because they say that it is cruelty to animals,
and that is should be abolished, but what they don’t realize is that any other meat they
eat, whether it be beef or pork that was once a living animal that had to be killed as well.
They don’t really take the whole thing in to prospective, that hunting is a sport and
hunters take great pride in what the harvest.
Why is hunting effective? Hunting is an effective way to control the animal
population. Without hunting the population would be overwhelming. There would be so
many animals that there wouldn’t be enough room, or enough food for them all to eat.
Which means that the animals would either die off because of lack of food, or they would
get some kind of disease that would kill almost all of them making them extinct. There
would also be more accidents involving big game, such as deer. There are already too
many accidents involving deer. People hit them all the time when there are driving down
the road. I can’t imagine what it would be like if there was no hunting. Just imagine
seeing ten times more deer and ten times as many accidents involving deer alone.
Along with controlling the population hunter’s help keep the animals from destroying
hundreds of acres of crops. A flock of geese can ruin a ten-acre field of beans in
probably three days. Which isn’t a long time considering how much effort farmers put
into plowing, planting, and cultivating, along with how many bushels of beans a ten-acre
field can produce. Hunters hunting, cannot save all the plants in every field but keep the
animals from completely destroying the crop causing the farmer to have a very difficult
time trying to re-plant and harvest. Geese are the major crop destroyers along with deer.
Deer can destroy many acres of corn in the same way a flock of geese can destroy a field
of beans. Not so much by eating it but by running through it, and bedding in it.
Hunting is also a good means of providing food for ones family. The meat of most of
the animals people hunt cannot be sold in stores, so it is a good way of providing a
different type of food every once in awhile. Many animals meat I consider as a delicacy
and find it very enjoyable to eat. What a lot of people who are against hunting don’t
realize is that hunters hunt for meat. Hunter’s don’t go out and shoot animals, take a
picture, and leave it lying there. Every hunter is after the meat. A lot of hunters do
trophy hunt but just because they are after a trophy doesn’t mean that they are going to
shoot the animal take its horns and leave it. Wild animal meat is probably the best meat
than anyone could ever have. It’s also affordable. Some people don’t have the money to
buy a half of beef or pork, so they hunt as their main source for food. A long with being
a great source of food many hunters hunt for the excitement of it all.
There is nothing more exciting than seeing a wild animal walk or fly up to you. Anti
hunters don’t realize that 99% of the time hunters are admiring the animals and the great
out doors. The other 1% of course is the kill. I love sitting in the woods or in a duck
blind and just watching the animals in their natural habitat and state of mind. There is
nothing more exhilarating than watching a deer walk around in the woods or a duck fly
by me. I absolutely love the out doors and the animals. No the most exciting part of the
hunt is not killing the animal it’s watching the animal and seeing how it reacts to a certain
sound or something it sees or smells. I take great pride in something I shoot and I have a
lot of respect for animals. If you can’t respect the animal you shouldn’t be hunting is
how I feel.
What I don’t understand about anti hunters is how they consider every hunter to be a
cold-blooded killer. If they would just look into hunting and the statistics of hunting they
would realize that hunting is good. I mentioned this earlier but hunting is not even close
to being all about killing it is about watching the animal in its natural state and admiring
it. I could go hunting for a week straight and not shoot anything, and still be happy if I
see animals. Just to see how they act and react to different situations. I enjoy the great
outdoors and greatly appreciate what God put here for us.
In conclusion I would like to say that hunting is the best alternative for the animals,
the people, and the environment. Without hunting the animals would be very
overpopulated and they would cause many major problems with our crops, and on the
roads. The animals would get diseases that would also cause a major drop in the
population, but then the animals would just go to waste, and that is why we hunt.
