Violent incidents that have occurred in recent weeks underscore the need for more concerted action to reduce school violence in Baltimore. At the beginning of the school year, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, President Baltimore City Council, introduced a resolution calling on the school system to develop a program to help teachers identify youth most at-risk for gang recruitment, and provide intervention and law enforcement resources to make our schools safer. The City Council President also introduced a City Council resolution calling for the creation of a new hotline for parents, teachers, and students to report and help prevent violence occurring in Baltimore City public schools. A televised Education Committee hearing on these proposals will be held on January 28th at 5:00pm, Du Burns Council Chambers, City Hall.
