Interview of Kristy’s Father (The Medical Laboratory Technician) K = Kristy Koo F = Kristy’s Father (Let me tell my dad that I am doing s project on doctor, so he will let me ask him question!) K: What is your job? F: My job is Medical Laboratory Technician. K: Why do you choose this job? F: Well… I think it’s because this job is interesting and challenging, I need to deal with different kinds of tasks once in a while. K: What are your objects? F: We have a lot of objects, for example, medical students, dental students, nurse students. Sometimes we have to help the University Lecturers to do some researches. K: What is your process of working? F: First, I have to prepare the practice apparatus, and some solution. And I will test the practice before starting. Then I will also help the students with their practice problem. Finally, when the experiment is over, I have to clean up the apparatus also. K: Would you like to share with us the most special experience that come across your job? Why you think is it special? F: I think the most special one was on the first day to work, I knew nothing about the working process and what I have to do with my objects. So I made a lot of mistakes on that day, and some students asked me questions that I don’t know, this was very embarrassing. K: Have you come across any problem related to your job? F: Yes. Sometimes there were so many things that scientists haven’t discovered in the research experiment, so it took me ages to solve the problem. K: What is the influence of your job on the society? F: I pass the knowledge to my students and help to bring up new medical doctors, dentists and nurses so that they can serve the society better. K: If you can choose another job, would you choose a job that is in the primary and secondary categories (e.g. Farmer, factory workers)? F: No, I think I wouldn’t. It is because a tertiary job is more comfortable, and the salary is also higher. K: Do you have anything else you want to add? F: Yes, of course. Some people think that this job can be very dangerous because of the outbreak of SARS. And now we do not have enough people to do this kind of job. But truth is, it is not that dangerous at all as long as we have done the suitable safety precautions. And I hope more young people will choose this job when they grow up, it is dead interesting! (Hmm…how come he doesn’t talk about Miss. Leung??) Interview of Miss Leung (The Beautician) M = Michelle Wong L = Miss Leung M: Hello Miss Leung I’m a reporter, would you mind if I interview you? L: Not at all. M: What do you do to earn a living? L: I’m a beautician. M: What do you need to do being a beautician? L: Just like the name of my job, I help beautify people, for example, doing facial, hair removal, etc. M: So you serve people by beautifying them. Your typical job in the service industry, then how come she and Mr. Koo is related? L: Pardon? M: Err…Nothing…..Why do you choose this job? L: Personally, I like beautifying people. Also, nowadays, people pay many attentions on how they look, so they often come to us, the beauticians to make themselves look better. I won’t get fired easily because the beauty center is making profit. M: That’s a really good reason. I bet many people think the same as you do. That means people choose their jobs according to the interest of the society, so they can earn more. Anyway, would you like to share with us the most special experience that came across you? L: Ah…I remember so clearly that time when I was doing a hair-removal above my client’s lips, I accidentally at her and blood was coming out. I was so scared that the client would get angry and report it to my boss. But luckily she didn’t even realize that I cut her! M: Haha, you are really lucky. I guess that’s the bad point of working in the service industry, your customers’ need is above everything. L: Yes, that’s the problem people who work in the service industry always have to face. If their customers complain about them, they will have a bad reputation, that’s why some people don't like being in the service industry. M: I see. What is the influence of your job on the society? L: I think people may want to have professional service to beautify themselves, so they will come to us other than buying face mask or other cosmetics, as a result, the retailing of those products will decrease. M: That’s true. If you can choose another job, would you choose job that is in the primary or secondary sectors other than keep working in the tertiary production. L: I think I will keep working in the tertiary production and choose to set up a shop that sells clothes and accessories. M: Why is that? L: Working in primary production would be my last choice, it is too hard for me. Such as being a farmer. Also the income is not high at all. I need to earn more as to support my family. M: you HAVE a family?? L: Yes. M: then what is your relationship with Mr. Koo? L: Mr. Koo? Who is he? M: Oh….seems we have made a mistake then. L: Hey I haven’t asked which magazine are you from? M: Err….I have to go…..Bye….thanks for your time!
