Program Assessment Report Digital Media Technology 2011 – All Tracks NC State students should attain competency in the college’s six core learning outcomes as well as the appropriate program level learning outcomes prior to graduation. Each course at NC State contributes to a student’s successful performance in one or more of the core learning outcomes (as indicated in the master syllabi) and/or program/department-level learning outcomes. The purpose of this form is to allow programs to document how their course(s), instructional strategies/activities, and assessment methods contribute to core and program/department-level learning outcomes achievement and to identifying and acting on areas in need of improvement. Guidelines: Program coordinators or program directors and their faculty select specific courses to report assessment results via the Course Assessment Report. This is to inform the Program Assessment Report. Faculty should: o Select courses where students are most likely to demonstrate a high level of attainment of the learning outcome, preferably near the end of the curriculum to support an across-the-curriculum approach (reinforcement and retention of learning) -- REQUIRED. o Select additional courses for pre and post assessment or to demonstrate progress in learning outcome attainment as students progress through the curriculum (a value-added approach) – OPTIONAL. Core Learning Outcomes are assessed institution-wide on a 3-year rotating schedule resulting in two outcomes assessed per year. o The 3-year rotating CLO assessment schedule is available at http://www.ncstatecollege.edu/committees/assessment/default.htm o Programs are encouraged to assess CLOs and report results on a more frequent schedule as needed. Program coordinators or program directors send the completed Program Assessment Report to the Assessment Committee, due annually in October. North Central State College Mission Statement: To provide quality, responsive, lifelong learning opportunities, including occupational, degree and other educational programs for individuals, business and industry, and the communities we serve. Program Mission Statement: Core Learning Outcomes Learning Outcome Written Communication* Speech* Assessment Procedures & Criteria Assessment Results Use of Results Identify the assessment method(s) used to measure and evaluate student success for this outcome. (List all methods.) The minimum acceptable score is 74%. (This may require converting the score to a %.) Report the achievement level = the number of students earning the minimal acceptable score (74%) or higher out of the total number of students who completed the assignment AND the course (e.g. 25/50 = 50%). Report the achievement level for each assessment method. 15 students completed the DMT255 Seminar class from Fall of 2010 until Summer 2011. All 15 or 100% passed the written assessment, using the college writing rubric with an 80% or better. 15 students completed the DMT255 Seminar class from Fall of 2010 until Summer 2011. All 15 or 100% passed the speech assessment using the college speech rubric, with an 80% or better. If the achievement level percentage falls below the college-wide minimum standard (70%) for any assessment results, identify change(s) planned to improve student learning in this CLO. Evaluate final written communication in the Seminar DMT255 class, in final paper about internship experience. Goal is 90% pass with 80% or better. Evaluate final speech in the Seminar DMT255 class, in final speech about internship experience. Goal is 90% pass with 80% or better. Great results! Great results! Information Literacy* Critical Thinking* Intercultural Knowledge/Competence* Computation Proficiency** *Rubrics are available on the Assessment of Student Learning Committee web site at http://www.ncstatecollege.edu/committees/assessment/default.htm. These rubrics may be used as is or modified, or another rubric or assessment method may be substituted. **After semester conversion, programs should report assessment results from the highest college math course in the curriculum (comprehensive final exam scores) as well assessment results that occur in non-math program courses where computation is considered to be important to the technology/profession (e.g. drug calculations in a nursing curriculum). Students are able to use multimedia technology to assemble graphics, text, sound, and video into a meaningful production. Students will demonstrate software skills using multimedia software currently used in industry. At least 80% of students will receive a passing grade in the DMT 110 course. 26 out of 36 or 72% of students completed DMT110 with 74% or above. We continue to make adjustments to the video project to keep students better engaged and on track. Students will pass software proficiency test by the end of DMT 105. DMT105: 31 out of 51 or 61% passed EX #8 pen tool 40 out of 51 or 78% passed EX #10 color correction 37 out of 51 or 73% passed EX #11 retouching Students will demonstrate software skills using multimedia software currently used in industry. Students will pass retouching and color correction project in DMT 135 with C- (74%) or higher. DMT135: 24 out of 34 or 71% passed retouching & color correction assignment with 74% C- or above There was 1 very good class and 1 class that had very low pass rates. A tutor was not available when students were struggling. A tutor is now available. Class size does not affect success rates. Students more comfortable with the computer have higher success rates. (Some data is missing, as some grades were lost to a computer crash). This assignment is more real world and complex. Students struggle with the many facets of retouching and color correction and the amount of attention to detail required. However an area company that hires our students as retouchers employs 4 of our students and calls us for more. We have fine tuned our curriculum, added a textbook on the software and seen a lot of improvement. We could evaluate design skills in the earlier first instead of second design class. These are great results that our curriculum covers the important areas in the graphic arts industry Students will follow the graphics design process and be able to produce original, complex digital graphics. At least 80% of students will receive a grade of passing on the DMT 128 course. 24 out of 26 or 92% had 74% C- or better in DMT128. Graduates will have a strong sampling of a variety of graphic arts skills in their technical area in their portfolio. Graduates will be able to perform effectively in a job interview. At least 80% of students will have their portfolio in the DMT 230 course judged overall as “Adequate” (74%) or better by a industry interviewer. 11 out of 12 or 94% had (C-) 74% or above on their portfolio. At least 80% of students will have their Interview in the DMT 230 course judged overall as “Adequate” (74%) or better by a industry interviewer. Students will need a grade of 77% or better on their DMT 255 final written and oral report. 8 out of 12 or 67% had (C-) 74% or above on their interview. We need to bring in an interview expert and maybe video tape mock interviews. Review rubrics from interviews for more ideas. 15 out of 15 students or 100% or better on their final written final report graded at 80% or better. 15 out of 15 students or 100% revieved an 80% or better on their Oral report. Outstanding Results Students will be evaluated by an Internship Agency Supervisor on a performance appraisal and will need to attain a score 80% or higher. 15 students out of 15 students had 80% or better on their performance appraisals. It should be noted that not one of our graduates ever has received an inadequate evaluation at their internship performance appraisal, except the 2 that quit attending their internship midquarter. Students will develop oral and written skills to communicate effectively. Digital Media Technology majors will demonstrate knowledge, skills, professionalism, and creativity in graphic design.
