Students will understand and identify the following in a short story: foreshadowing, inner
conflict, irony, author’s purpose, alliteration, and metaphors.
How will we learn it?

Students will read “The Ransom of Red Chief” and will use notes and prior knowledge to identify
the above.
How will we tell if we are learning it correctly?
Teacher will monitor and clarify as the students work.
What do I need to be successful?
A copy of the assignments and your computer.
