I will grade it using the STAAR rubric provided by TEA. Students will be aware of this rubric as well. Checks for Understanding: I time each part of the essay after we brainstorm and discuss the prompt for ten minutes. Intro: 4 minutes Paragraph 1: 10 minutes Paragraph 2: 10 minutes Conclusion: 4 minutes We then label topic sentences, concrete details, and commentary. What do I need to be successful?
