Monday 9/15
Objective: I will be able to review my understanding of similes and metaphors and begin to analyze
how literary devices affect my understanding and impression of a piece of fiction.
1. Do first: Simple Sentences and Compound Sentences Review
2. Continue reading and discussing “The Most Dangerous Game”
3. Column Notes for MDG: Add similes and metaphors AND discuss how these two literary devices
add to the reader’s experience of a fictional story
Tuesday 9/16
Objective: I will be able to differentiate between methods of characterization and understand how an
author employs them to create believable characters.
1. Do first: Compound Sentences Applied Practice (Writing Coach)
2. Finish reading and discussing “The Most Dangerous Game”
3. Characterization PowerPoint Notes
4. Independent Practice via the “STEAL” Method: General Zaroff and Rainsford
Wednesday 9/17- Thursday 9/18
Objective: I will be able to support my assertions about characterization by using textual evidence.
1. Do first: Complex Sentences
2. Finish our “STEAL” Method Charts for General Zaroff and Rainsford
3. Group Activity: Post-Mortem for “The Most Dangerous Game”
