English II Prep - Lesson Plans - Week of 8/25-8/29 Monday Tuesday Daily Objective: The student will provide a writing sample and introduce him/herself. Daily Objective: The student will learn the expectations of this course and this class. How Assessed: “Letter to Me” How Assessed: signed syllabus Materials Needed: ”Letter” template, paper, pen/pencil Materials Needed: syllabus, policies, & procedures, classroom posters, reading inventory, student information sheets Daily Activities: 1. Do First –student information card 2. Introduce self again. 3. Go over syllabus, policies, & procedures. Field questions. 4. Students fill out reading/academic inventory. Daily Activities: 1. Do First – find assigned seat & begin “Letter to Me” 2. Introduce self briefly as students write. Reinforce expectations of what is written and how. 3. Collect materials. Tell students what supplies they need. Homework: Get required materials by Tuesday, 9/2 Homework: Get syllabus signed by Friday. How Assessed: unit test, TPCASTT project, exit ticket Materials Needed: class set of textbooks, graphic organizer for Warm-Up, PowerPoint, student note sheet, exit ticket Daily Objective: The student will analyze the effect of sound devices in a poem. Daily Activities: 1. Do First – Write down everything you think, know, and feel about poetry. 2. Pass out student note sheets and have students open to pg. 770. 3. Go through the material, guide students in note-taking, and pause for student practice with the embedded excerpts from poems. 4. At end of p. 771, present PowerPoint of common poetic forms 5. Return to textbook to cover 772-3. 6. Jigsaw activity – poetic forms & elements 7. Exit ticket – 4 lines of poetry – find devices/identify form Daily Activities: 1. Do First – Think about the poems you read yesterday. Which one resonated most with you and why? (paragraph) 2. Ask students to remind you what the sound devices are and to give examples. 3. Work through LTF Sound devices lesson with students. Students finish alone or with a partner for a grade. 4. Exit ticket – create original examples of each kind of sound device.
