Many cups drawing Objective: Students will learn to draw a machine made objects. To do that they must master a system of visual measurement, compose the form and its shadows in the frame of reference at the appropriate scale and shade the drawing to suggest the 3 dimensional form of the cups on a flat piece of paper. Students will also learn how to draw a circle seen in perspective, the elliptical lip of the cup. Skill demonstration: Students will draw a single cup on a 9’ x 12” piece of paper. They will use a system of visual measurement that compares the widest part of the cup to the total height of the cup. For Styrofoam cups that measurement is that the height is one and one half the width of the widest part or the ellipse. Students will place the cup on the frame of reference using asymmetrical balance according to the direction of the cast shadow. Students will use a full range of values the shade the cup, the shadow and the negative space. Major project: Students will draw a many cup still life, 5 plus another object. Students will demonstrate that they are able to draw the cups with the correct proportions of height verses width. Additionally they will use the system of visual measurement to locate all the objects in the composition correctly. The drawing will then be shaded with a full range of values using ebony pencils. Rubric: Demonstrate the ability to use a system of visual measurement to draw objects in correct proportions Demonstrate the ability to draw elliptical forms Demonstrate the ability to shade the drawing using a full range of values Demonstrate the ability to create a well crafted drawing
