Summary of NROTC Minority Serving Institution

Scholarship Reservation (MSISR)

For motivated and qualified individuals seeking to develop morally, mentally, and physically and to become commissioned Naval Officers.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS

1.

Be a citizen or national of the United States of America.

2.

Be a high school senior or college student with fewer than 30 credit hours.

3.

Be at least 17 years old and no older than 23 years old at time of application submission.

4.

Obtain the following scores on EITHER the SAT or ACT: i.

SAT Math SAT Reading ii.

5.

High school seniors ONLY must meet at least one of the following criteria: a.

Maintain a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). b.

Rank in the top 40% of graduating class. c.

Successfully complete 4 units of English, 3 units of Math, 3 units of Natural Sciences and 2 units of social science by end of senior year.

6.

College students ONLY must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 and a grade of “C” or better in all courses attempted. The college transcript must validate completion of one academic term of college level math or science.

7.

Demonstrate leadership, integrity and personal character.

8.

Have a history of participation and leadership in school, extracurricular or community activities.

9.

Be capable of passing a physical examination (chronic illness is usually a disqualifier) and meet the Navy’s medical, height and weight standards.

10.

Be physically fit.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS (MAY BE COMPLETED/EVALUATED AFTER SCHOLARSHIP IS OFFERED.)

11.

Apply and gain admission to Savannah State University.

12.

Have basic swim skills (ability to swim at least 1 stroke, float, tread water and demonstrate comfort in deep water.)

13.

Once admitted, attend physical fitness training 3 times a week.

14.

Demonstrate capability to complete two semesters of calculus prior to the start of junior year in college and two semesters of physics prior to the start of the senior year.

NAVAL ROTC PROGRAM BENEFITS

 Full tuition paid for.

 All college and university education fees paid for, including any out-of-state fees and lab fees for any major offered by the University.

 $750 per year stipend for books ($375 per semester)

 Monthly subsistence allowance for a 10-month academic year: $250 for freshmen, $300 for sophomores, $350 for juniors and $400 for seniors.

 Approximately $600 per month for the period assigned to the United States Navy during summer, worldwide intern training.

 Guaranteed employment upon graduation and commissioning (5 year service commitment is required.)
