BASIC FUNCTION
The Technology Support Specialist II serves as the second tier support for all Audio/Visual related problems faculty and
staff encounter. The incumbent maintains systems for optimum operating efficiency and assists with on campus events in
relation to audio visual needs. The Technology Support Specialist II helps to maintain the functionality of classroom
computer labs; including but not limited to hardware and software problems; and provides timely support through help
desk requests and by servicing emergency calls.
NATURE & SCOPE
Reporting directly to the Director of Technology Support Services the incumbent serves as a member of a team that
provides application and hardware deployment services to the university; and coordinates work activities with the
supervisor to ensure that this work is carried out.
Work is assigned through help desk requests and the Director of Technology Support Services. The Technology Support
Specialist II has the authority to make decisions regarding the method in which Audio/Visual PC problems and /or repairs
are carried out; decisions that deviate outside the scope of Audio/Visual PC support must be handled by higher authority.
The incumbent interacts on a weekly basis with vendors, faculty, staff, and students to carry out the objectives of the
positon; and must stay current with technological advances in software and hardware that will help to facilitate problem
resolution.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
 Assist in providing technical assistance in the planning and operational functions of audiovisual equipment
 Provide technical assistance regarding the types of visual aids to be used and provide instruction on equipment
use
 Provide technical input related to the procurement of equipment and supplies
 Provide hardware and software support for general purpose and classroom labs
 Perform programming on computer-assisted audiovisual equipment
 Maintain hardware to support classroom technology; maintain and repair equipment to enhance live events
 Maintain and make repairs to visual aid equipment desktops, laptops, printers, projectors, video conferencing
equipment, and smartboards
 Transport and set up audio-visual equipment as requested by faculty and staff
 Work in other capacities as needed or determined by supervisor
 Provide after-hours support and work extended or alternate shifts as needed
 Perform other duties as assigned to support the ITS department and the University

Position Description – Technology Support Specialist II
Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree; and strong application and troubleshooting skills needed for repair,
maintenance, and testing of audiovisual equipment and computer hardware and software repair. The ability to lift, move,
or carry 25 pounds or more.
