Data Standards
In lower levels of the architecture, data
standards will need to be set only for fields
of data within entities.

Data element standards will need to be set
only for fields of data that need to be
shared between information systems.

Since data sharing mechanism is the data
hubs, these standards can be defined as
part of the development of the data hubs.

As a reminder, standards increase flexibility
by decoupling components from one
another while still allowing interoperability.

For example, the information system we
called target marketing will most likely
contain data elements that capture
prospect profiles.
For example, business-to-business
marketing databases usually code
prospects by job title categories.

Data Standards
What is important in setting data standards is the
meaning of the field.
Most enterprise data dictionary projects spend too
much time on field names and values.
Obviously, if it is possible to standardize on names
and values, it helps.
But it is compatibility in data field meaning that
provides the true value to the enterprise.
