Regulations for Subsidizing Graduate Students of I-Shou University to
Present Research Papers at International Conferences Overseas

Amendments to the Regulations ratified and promulgated
by the President on January 28, 2013
Article 1 To increase the international visibility and research & development performance of
I-Shou University (hereinafter referred to as the “University”), encourage graduate
students to present research papers at international conferences overseas, promote
professionalism and technological application, help improve the academic status of the
University, as well as promote international interactions, the Regulations for Subsidizing
Graduate Students of I-Shou University to Present Research Papers at International
Conferences Overseas (hereinafter referred to as the “Regulations”) are hereby
established.
Article 2 The Regulations are applicable to students currently enrolled at master’s programs and
PhD programs of the University.
Article 3 The funding applied for pursuant to the Regulations is included in the annual budget of
the Office of Research and Development (hereinafter referred to as the “Office”), and the
Office is responsible for the overall planning of the funding.
The approved amount of the budget shall be applied for pursuant to regulations regarding
the use of budget and other relevant accounting regulations. The University may give
grants based on the approved amount of the budget, and the University may not give
grants if no budget is available.
Article 4 Applicants shall file an application to the Academic Development Section of the Office of
Research and Development (hereinafter referred to as the “Section”) two weeks (14 days)
before the conference takes place with the following documents attached. Late
application shall not be acceptable unless the applicant shall not be to blame for the
overdue application and relevant explanations and a proof with the seal of the supervisors
affixed are presented:

The photocopies or faxed documents of the official invitation letter of the conference

the applicants plan to attend.
3.
The full text or the abstract of the research paper the applicants plan to present at the
conference.
Article 5 A set of principles regarding the amount of subsidies granted is stipulated by the
University based on the regions in which conferences are held, the presentation format
and the academic level of the conferences (see the Appendix).
Article 6 If applicants have received grants from the Ministry of Education, the National Science
Council or other organizations for participating the same conference, the University will
give grants pursuant to the following rules:
1.
For applicants who receive a full subsidy: The University will grant 10% of the
subsidy calculated pursuant to the aforesaid regulation.
2.
For applicant who do not receive a full subsidy: The University will grant the
remaining amount of the subsidy calculated pursuant to the aforesaid regulation, but
the total subsidy shall not exceed the sum of the airfare of a round-trip ticket
(economy class) and the registration fee for the international conference (applicants
shall apply for the subsidy according to the selling exchange rate of US dollars
released by the Bank of Taiwan one day before the departure).
Applicants shall present relevant proof of receiving subsidies from aforesaid
organizations upon application.
Article 7 Other notices:
1.
Applicants who apply for subsidies pursuant to the Regulations shall submit a
written report and receipts for expenditure reimbursement to the Section within 15
days after returning to Taiwan.
2.
Applicants shall be listed as authors of the paper presented.
3.
Master’s students may receive the subsidy once in the same academic year; while
PhD students may receive the subsidy twice at most in the same academic year, and
the amount of subsidies received in each academic year shall not exceed NT$
40,000.
4.
If more than two applicants apply for the remaining subsidy before the deadline for
the subsidy application of the current semester, the University may prioritize the
subsidy recipients based on the following conditions: applicants who will conduct
oral presentation at the conference; applicants enrolled at the PhD program; or the
author listing order for the applicants on the research paper.
If more than two applicants are entitled to the priority of receiving subsidies at the
same time, the University may follow the principles stipulated in Article 5 to grant
subsidies proportionally.

5.
The University will grant subsidies to only one master’s student for each research
paper.
6.
The applicants are required to write and present the research paper in foreign
languages.
Article 8 The Regulations become effective on the third day of promulgation after being adopted
by the University Administration Council and ratified by the President.
Note: In the event of any dispute or misunderstanding as to the interpretation of the language or
terms of the Regulations, the Chinese language version shall prevail.

I.
The following table states the maximum subsidies for conferences held at different regions,
and applicants shall bear the additional expenses if the subsidy is insufficient.

The calculation of subsidies granted to graduate students attending international
conferences at different levels are as follows (the conference level is determined pursuant
to the list of international conferences attended by the faculty members at respective
colleges of the University):
