Curiosity April 26: NO SCHOOL, Primary Election Day Reading/Literacy Did you know that students have been reading books in PreK? We’ve learned a few sight words that good readers keep in their brain to help them read. So far we learned the words “the, go, a, is, I”. At home: When reading with your child, see if they can spot one of our sight words. When you finish reading a story, ask questions to see if they understood what was read. Ask, “who was in the story?” or “what happened at the end of the story?” Students are encouraged to wonder and ask questions. Units of Study It’s all about Nature! How Do Plants Grow?, What’s in the Sky?, Our Weather, The Seasons Mathematics We continue to practice counting to 30 each day at school. Those teen numbers are tricky because 13, 14, 15, and 16 sound the same to their little ears. Students are sorting and putting objects in groups! We are working on describing how objects are the same or different. When sorting, the items in a group should have something in common. For instance, they are all big, all blue, or all round. Find things at home that your child can sort and ask him or her to tell you what is the same in each group. We are also learning about more, less, or equal. We will provide opportunities for students to recognize if two cups of water are equal or if two groups of children are equal. If not, which group has less? Which group has more?
