Executive Secretary, National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, NASC, DPS Marg, Pusa Campus, New
Delhi – 110 012, so as to reach him not later than 15 April, 2013.

Before sending the nomination, please ensure the following:1. Nomination Form is signed by the Proposer.
2. Carefully read the Guidelines for Evaluation of Nominations before filling up the Nomination Form.
3. Part B and C of the Nomination Form should be typewritten.
4. Separate sub-heads for listing scientific achievements under different categories are provided in the
Part C. Proofs for claims made in item 2 & 3 in Part C should be attached.
5. Please attach a copy of entire list of publications separately alongwith NAAS Journal ID in item 4
of Part C. Research publications only in International and/or Indian Journals of impact and high
standing as identified by the Academy (please refer Academy’s web site: www.naasindia.org for the
purpose) may be listed. Nominees should avoid listing publications, in unreferred and regional journals
that are not in the Academy list, papers/abstracts presented in workshops /symposia, and papers sent
for publication but not yet published. However, papers accepted for publications may also be listed.
6. Please attach a copy each of first (best) 20 papers.
7. The cut-off date for receipt of Nominations will be 15th April 2013. No updates/reprints/additional
information furnished by the nominees for periods after 15th April 2013 shall be considered.
8. Proforma with incomplete information will be returned to the proposer.
9. Nomination for Selection of Associates should be written on the envelope containing the
nomination papers.

GUIDELINES FOR SELECTION OF ASSOCIATES OF THE ACADEMY

Associateship is open to serving Young Scientists, upto the age of 40 years, working in
agriculture related disciplines in Research/Academic Systems in India.

The Associates have the following privileges:
(a)
To be present in all General Body Meetings
(b)
To have personal access to the library of the Academy
(c)
To take out books, plates, drawings, manuscripts, etc. from the library, subject to such
regulations as may be prescribed by the Academy
(d)
To offer papers and communications to be read before the meetings of the Academy.

A total of 10 Associates can be selected in a year whose associateship will be valid for 5 years.
There is no discipline/sectional committee-wise quota. The upper limit of number of Associates will
be 50.

The identification of the Associates will be done by Sectional Committees, which will be reviewed
by the Conveners’ Group and approved by the Executive Council. However, there is no balloting.

The criteria for election will be academic excellence based on scientific contributions as reflected
by publications, products, processes and technologies etc.

The Weightage to various criteria will be as Follows:
1. Publications – maximum 70 marks
2. Concepts, Processes, Products, Technologies, Patents & Books – maximum 20 marks
3. Awards & honors, including Scientific Leadership – maximum 10 marks

Publications (Maximum 70 marks)
(i)
All research publications of the nominees will be given weightage according to
the NAAS Marking of Journals with a maximum of 2 marks each, subject to a
maximum of 70 marks for all publications
(ii)
In scoring of papers/publications with multiple authors, no distinction between
first, second and subsequent authors will be made and all the authors will get
equal marks.
(iii)
These marking will be worked out by the NAAS Secretariat
(iv)
The nominees should submit the list of their publications in the descending order
of NAAS marking of journals. For this purpose, list of Journals as identified by
NAAS and available on Academy website: www.naasindia.org should be
consulted and the Journal ID should be mentioned in the column provided in the
proforma against each paper/publication.
Concepts, Processes, Products, Technologies, Patents & Books (Maximum 20 marks)
Concept such as propounding a new theory or describing pathways and mechanisms of a
process. Process such as development and description of steps/components of a process
that explain the total mechanism of operation. These may also include development of new
extension methodologies, methods of conservation agriculture, development of innovative
approaches for technology impact assessment and improvements in understanding of new
concepts.

Products: Development of new products (e.g. variety, fertilizer/agrochemical dispensing
machine, development of IPM strategies, NRM strategies, models of institutional
innovations in agriculture, econometric or statistical models & computer softwares for
agriculture, including extension softwares such as expert systems & interactive multimedia,
new machines/equipments or major modifications in them and development of new valueadded products) that have been or have the potential to be adopted on a wide scale. In the
case of social sciences, it will include special reports that have influenced policies and
programmes.
Technologies, Technology Assessment and Transfer: Research findings that become
sustainable practices among the stakeholders – These include IPM & INM strategies,
integrated farming system models, new water harvesting & conservation methods, new
post-harvest technologies, including minimal or primary processing technologies to save
huge losses, institutional innovations and innovative extension efforts leading to large scale
diffusion and adoption of technologies.
Products and Technologies, which have entered the All India Coordinated Trials and tested
there for atleast one year, will also be given credit.
Books: Books with atleast 100 pages, published by a reputed publisher. Candidate has to
submit a brief write-up of not more than 100 words on the qualitative contents of the book.
(Each authored book scores 2.0 marks, and edited book scores 1.0 mark)
Patents etc.: Patents granted/filed with details of File No., Accession No. etc. (Each patent
granted scores 2.0 marks and patent filed 1.0 mark). The credit for Trade Marks,
Germplasm registration and IP protection efforts will also be given.
