BROADCASTING SYLLABUS PURPOSE The Broadcasting class at MBHS offers explanation and practice in the fundamentals of Journalism and Television Production. The primary purpose is to inform our audiences and showcase the students of Mountain Brook High School, while developing and enhancing professional communication skills. CLASSROOM GUIDELINES Each student is expected to adhere to the following guidelines: Work diligently on broadcasting assignments throughout the entire class time Meet all deadlines Treat others with respect To care for furnishings and equipment in the studio – put things back in their proper place, throw away trash, handle all equipment with care. Listen to and follow instructions the first time they are given. PRODUCTION PROCEDURES The studio and control room will be open by 7:30 am for each production team member to begin working on his/her Pre-Production Responsibilities Everyone should be in class by the Tardy Bell and working on Pre-Production Responsibilities and/or Post-Production Responsibilities. 8:15 – The Entire Production Team will meet for a Production Meeting at which time we will evaluate productions progress and discuss story and project ideas and assignments. 8:25 – 8:35 – Recording the morning news. After recording, the news needs editing for Broadcast by 8:50. GRADE EVALUATION All skills will be rated on a scale of 5 to 1 (5 Superior, 4 Excellent, 3 Average, 2 Below Average, 1 Needs Improvement). Each Production Team Member will be evaluated weekly according to his/her performance in an assigned position. Job assignments will rotate every two weeks – some will rotate more often if necessary. Students will also be required to complete three (3) outside projects per nine weeks along with a Final Exam project at the end of the semester. Total points earned on all assignments will be averaged to determine the final report card grade.
