I am excited to be your 6 th grade math teacher for this school year! The 6 th grade curriculum will help you develop mathematical talents through collaborative learning, critical thinking, and problem solving using real world applications. Your learning will focus on becoming an effective problem-solver not only in the classroom, but also for success throughout life.
Please keep this paper as a reference in your folder. These guidelines will help create a safe, cooperative, and successful learning environment for all students in class.
Course Outline
The 6 th grade curriculum implements the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
(TEKS) and will prepare students to pass the State of Texas Assessment of
Academic Readiness (STAAR) in May.
1 st 6-weeks
Rational Numbers, Multiplying and Dividing Fractions and Decimals, Introduction of Integer Operations
2 nd 6-weeks
Integer Operations, Ratios and Rates, Percent Applications
3 rd 6-weeks
Algebraic Reasoning, Equations, and Inequalities
4 th 6-weeks
Algebraic Relationships with Two Variables, Angles and Triangles, Area
5 th 6-weeks
Volume, Data Analysis, Financial Literacy
6 th 6-weeks
Financial Literacy, Bridge to 7 th grade and 7 th grade Pre-AP

There will be at least 2 test grades each six weeks. Quizzes may be announced or unannounced.
Students should review class notes and rework sample homework and quiz problems in order to be well prepared for each quiz and test.
Tests and quizzes will be kept in the binder and/or teacher folder in order to review for semester exams and STAAR
Classroom Rules
1.
Follow directions the first time they are given.
2.
Raise your hand for permission to speak or to leave your seat.
3.
10/10 rule (No students are allowed to leave the classroom the first or last
10 minutes of class.
4.
Keep hands, feet, objects, and discourteous remarks to yourself.
5.
All work must be completed in pencil with required steps shown.
6.
The discipline plan will be followed as stated in the Student Code of
Conduct.

1 inch 3-ring binder with white WIDE ruled notebook paper

1 pack of five tab dividers (will be labeled in class)

Pencils with erasers (mechanical preferred) NO PENS

Completed homework assignment

Student Agenda will be used daily to record the objectives, assignments for the day, and test dates.
