Reagan High School Enabling our students to realize great heights 713-865-4400 www.jhreagan.org Global Business Course Syllabus 2014 – 2015 Instructor: Eretta Batts ebatts@houstonisd.org Room# M324 Tutorials: As needed Conference: 2nd Period Phone: (713) 865-4400 ext. 371 Course Overview DESCRIPTION: In Global Business students gain knowledge and skills in economic and private enterprise systems, the impact of global business, cultural influences on business, trade relations and agreements, foreign exchange and global marketing. This course allows students to reinforce, apply, and transfer academic knowledge and skills to a variety of interesting and relevant activities, problems and settings in business and marketing. Required Materials MATERIALS NEEDED: Professional dress attire for class presentations Black or blue ink pens Composition Book or tablet for note taking Flash drive 16GB minimum (preferred for computer use) 3 x 5 Index cards (pkg. of 100) Grading EVALUATION: Grades will be based from the following: 10% Class Participation 30% Daily Work/Homework 20% Quizzes 40% Tests/Projects 5 % Extra Credit TUTORING Students, who need individual assistance and tutoring, may come in for extra help before school starts and by appointment only. Oh, and perhaps some Saturdays. General Expectations and Procedures Students are expected to be prompt to class, present in class, prepared with materials, participate in class, and polite with everyone in class. RESPECT – It is expected that you will respect each other and his/her property. Good employees respect each other’s opinion and personal items. Take good care of computer equipment in the classroom. Keep your workstation clean and neat. You must return all materials/books to their proper place. PREPARATION – It is expected that you will bring all necessary materials to class to be an active, participating member of the class. Good employees are always ready with all required materials and ready to work. TARDIES – It is expected that you will be in your seat when the bell rings. Also remain in your seat until the bell rings at the end of the period. If a tardy is excused by another teacher, it is your responsibility to bring a pass with you to class. You will not be allowed to leave class 15 minutes after the bells rings or 15 minutes before the bell rings. PLEASE DON’T ASK. Good employees are usually early and are rarely late for work; you will be not be allowed into class without a tardy pass NO EXCEPTIONS. You will be given four restroom passes per semester. If you have passes remaining at the end of the semester they can be used for extra credit (1 point per pass) on the final exam. TESTS/QUIZZES - It is expected that you take all tests when scheduled. If you are absent on the day of a test, you will be required to make up the test within five days after you return. ABSENCES - If an absence is planned, it is your responsibility to get assignments BEFORE you are gone or to make arrangements with the instructor. Make-up work for unplanned absences will be accepted for full credit if it is turned in within five days from date of absence. COMPLETION OF ASSIGNMENTS - It is expected that you will attend class regularly and participate in all class activities and assignments. It is your responsibility to get ALL work turned in when due. Class period trays are provided and all assignments should be put in these trays. In order to pass the class each six weeks, ALL assignments must be completed and turned in, even if they are late. Cheating will not be tolerated. First offense will result in a "0" for all parties involved. Second offense will result in referral to the principal. LATE ASSIGNMENTS - For each class day an assignment is late, 10 points will be deducted. Students who need extra help should attend tutorials. Students can receive full credit on an assignment if they seek help at tutorials and turn the assignment in no later than one class day after it is due. RETEST PROCEDURES-If you earn below a 70% on any test in this class, you have the opportunity to come to tutorials to receive extra help and retest. The highest grade you will be able to receive is a 75%. If you are absent on testing day, you will come in for tutorials in order to make up the test. Students have a week for test retakes. COMMUNICATION - Communication is the key to a productive and enjoyable school year. If you have any questions or need additional help, please ask!! I will gladly meet you at school if you want additional help. If unexpected problems arise which may cause you to have problems with my class, come talk to me. I will work with you on these, but you must contact me as soon as you see a problem. Don't wait until class time. This may be too late! Remember: Grades are NOT given, Grades are EARNED by YOU! Rules for Computers Downloading music or other programs to the hard drive is not permitted. Do not bring in personal disks or CD’s for use in these computers. Modifying any settings on the computer is not permitted. Opening another student’s document or copying from his/her files is not permitted. No food or drinks are allowed into the computer lab Do not visit unacceptable internet web sites or use the internet unless permitted by the teacher. DO NOT PRINT without permission. Proofread documents from the screen before printing Computers may not be used to play music or watch music videos –No warning, you will be written up the first and every time. Do not bring any electronic devices to the classroom. Electronic devices such as iPods, Mp3 players, personal radios, headphones or personal music devices may not be used or visible during the school day. These electronic devices will be confiscated by school staff if used or visible during the school day. Do not download any ring tones on the cell phones. Cell phones used or visible at any time during class will be confiscated. Parents will be required to pay a $15 fee and make an appointment with the administrator, in order to pick up confiscated cell phones. Most Important Class Rule!!!!!: #1 Respect……Teacher, Others, Self and School Property. The classroom rules are subject to change. A discussion concerning the infraction will take place prior to any punishment.
