Thanks for your interest in the Magruder High School Child Development
Preschool. This unique program provides a quality educational experience for a 4year old children and high school student teachers who are eager to work
together.
Children in the program should preferably live within or near the Margruder
school boundaries. I attempt to balance the class evenly according to gender
whenever possible. At this point, there are openings for both boys and girls.
Please read the attached information. If you are interested in having your child
attend our program, please download the 2-page application, fill it out, and mail it
as directed on the form. I will contact you upon receipt of the completed
application and non-refundable registration fee, which is applied to the cost or
the fall semester.
I will send a mailing with medical forms and the other pertinent information to all
enrolled families in late August. There will be an orientation in early October.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Listed below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about
the Child Development preschool program. If your question is not answered here,

Q: What time does preschool meet?
AM 8:40 – 11:05. PM 12:05 – 1:35 We follow the Magruder bell schedule for
periods 2,3,4(AM) and periods 6,7 (PM).
Q: How often are classes held?
4 days a week (Wednesday are usually the exception).
The schedule is subject to infrequent changes, based on the needs of
Magruder High school.
Q: How many preschoolers in the class?
We accept 10 children each year in each session.
Q: Who are the teachers?
High school students being trained and supervised by the MCPS Child
Development/Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) instructor.
Q: What do the children learn?
We emphasize the child’s growth, as well as the expected pre-kindergarten skills:
counting, alphabet recognition, small motor skills, and large muscle development.
Q: What is the cost of the program?
$225 for the AM session and $150 for the PM session. Children are expected to
attend both semesters, giving the high school students the opportunity to
observe and document growth and development over the entire year. A nonRefundable registration fee of $50 must be sent with the application. This fee will
be applied to the first semester tuition.
Q: What are the age requirements?
The program is designed for children the year before they enter kindergarten.
Children should be 4 by December of the year they enter the program.
Q: What would be included in a typical day?
The schedule for the child includes group circle time activities (music, games,
stories), learning center activities based on weekly themes (language arts, math,
science, art, and phonics), outdoor play, a nutritional snack, and free play (blocks,
dress up, and dramatic play, puzzles and manipulates.)
Q: What us the preschool calendar?
We begin our program in mid-October and continue through late May. Schedules
are adjusted to the Montgomery County Public School calendar and the needs of
Magruder High School.
