ALGAE PHOTOBIOREACTOR
Team 12
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Concerned with CO2 released to the atmosphere.
 CO2 scrubbing equipment is expensive
 CO2 storage is not economically feasible
 Current petro based fuels are unsustainable and
increasingly expensive

According to the IPCC, capturing and
compressing CO2 would increase the fuel needs of
a coal-fired plant with CCS by 25%-40%
SOLUTION
An inexpensive photobioreactor
 Algae grows while capturing CO2
 Sunlight does the remainder of the work
 Biomass is used as an energy source

CLIENTELE
Power generating companies that burn fossil
fuels
 Chemical plants with CO2 in purge streams
 Organizations with on-site power generation

PROFITABILITY
Sell or lease photobioreactors to clients
 Design and install applications to meet specific
company needs
 Algal biomass can be sold or processed into a
biofuel

PROFITABILITY FOR END USER
Eliminates the need for costly carbon
sequestration processes
 Carbon tax savings
 Selling algal biomass for process into biofuel

