COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course provides instruction for the student to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for
carrying out administrative tasks as a medical assistant. Topics include, but are not limited to: office
work, telephone techniques, and the use of a computerized medical practice management and
electronic health record (EHR) system for scheduling appointments, applying patient check-in
procedures, managing health/follow-up data, and managing payment procedures.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the completion of the course the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills required for maintaining office equipment, managing correspondence/
office supplies, and employing effective telephone techniques in a medical practice.
2. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills required for effective management of the revenue cycle in a medical
practice using computerized software.
3. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills required for effective management and documentation of patient
encounters from scheduling appointments to reports and follow-up in a medical practice using computerized
software.

Introduction to software for medical practice management and electronic health records
Managing the revenue cycle
