COURSE/CATALOG DESCRIPTION
This course presents geometric constructions, triangles, congruence, parallelograms, circles, loci of points and similar
polygons with emphasis on formal proof as an aid to logical reasoning. (Students who have successfully completed
high school geometry will not receive credit for MATH 119.)
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of the course the student will be able to:
1. Understand and apply basic geometric facts.
2. Identify and carry out valid deductive reasoning.
3. Write a formal geometric proof.
4. Understand and apply the axiomatic method to geometry.
INTENDED STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Students will be able to apply properties of lines and angles.
Students will be able to apply properties of triangles, including congruence
Students will be able to apply properties of polygons
Students will be able to apply properties of circles.
Students will be able to carry out a logical argument using deductive reasoning.

OUTSIDE OF CLASS WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS:
Title 5, section 55002.5 establishes that a range of 48 -54hours of lecture, study, or lab work is required for one unit of credit.
For each hour of lecture, students should be required to spend an additional two hours of study outside of class to earn one
unit of credit.
