ACTIVITIES: (Please provide a list of the activities students will perform in order to satisfy the HBA requirement): COURSE/CATALOG DESCRIPTION This course presents geometric constructions, triangles, congruence, parallelograms, circles, loci of points and similar polygons with emphasis on formal proof as an aid to logical reasoning. (Students who have successfully completed high school geometry will not receive credit for MATH 119.) COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the completion of the course the student will be able to: 1. Understand and apply basic geometric facts. 2. Identify and carry out valid deductive reasoning. 3. Write a formal geometric proof. 4. Understand and apply the axiomatic method to geometry. INTENDED STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Students will be able to apply properties of lines and angles. Students will be able to apply properties of triangles, including congruence Students will be able to apply properties of polygons Students will be able to apply properties of circles.
