COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will provide students with a historical awareness and multidisciplinary overview of La
Raza Studies as an academic field. Students will gain a basic understanding of the historical, social,
political, economic and cultural context of Chicanos/as and Latinos/as in the Américas. This course
has a comparative and transnational approach. Not repeatable.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the completion of the course the student will be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge of the history and significance of the La Raza Studies discipline;
Discuss the socio-political and cultural experiences of Latinos/as in the United States and abroad;
Compare and contrast the experience of Latinos/as to other ethnic groups in America;
State the various topics in the La Raza Studies department.
