The activities will include (but not limited to) participating in the intake process, individual counseling (under supervision), cofacilitating process groups, be part of a team assessing and developing treatment plans, record keeping and implementing
agency procedures.
COURSE/CATALOG DESCRIPTION
This course will provide practical experience under supervision in a dual diagnosis mental health clinic or in a drug
treatment center. The student will gain experience in the intake process, diagnosis, counseling and treatment
planning as part of a team providing services to dual diagnosed clients.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of the course the student will be able to:
Complete the agency intake process
Conduct an intake interview
Use the DSM-V (under supervision) as a diagnostic tool
Participate as a team member in the development of case reports
INTENDED STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Participate in and co-lead group therapeutic sessions
Provide individual counseling (under supervision)
Record information in clients charts and records
Make appropriate referrals to local agency support programs.

The language of addiction
The interview process
Practice using the DSM-V
Case conceptualization and treatment planning
Laws of ethics and reporting responsibilities
Linking clients with other systems of service and resources

OUTSIDE OF CLASS WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS:
Title 5, section 55002.5 establishes that a range of 48 -54hours of lecture, study, or lab work is required for one unit of credit.
