May be repeated three times. COURSE OBJECTIVES At the completion of the course the student will be able to: Synthesize a methodology for developing a role within a defined process (rehearsal) in order to meet the obligations to the text, playwright and director. Analyze a specific play script, its characters and all of the theatrical elements of the script for the purpose of bringing the script to life in a full theatrical production. Demonstrate an awareness of the importance of discipline, exactness, persistence, diligence, imagination and teamwork in the craft of acting. Classify the social, political, cultural and historical forces that are relevant to the specific play being produced. COURSE CONTENT: (In detail; attach additional information as needed and include percentage breakdown) 10 % Safe and effective warm-up ritual. 10 % Organic and non-directional blocking for the actor. 15 % Building a character. 10 % Working knowledge of theatre terminology 10 % Vocal work. 10 % Movement. 10 % Script analysis 15 % Application of rehearsal 10 % Research on particulars of the play itself (historical period, social, political and cultural forces.) METHODS OF INSTRUCTION Lecture/Discussion Various rehearsal and performance techniques. Cooperative learning. INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS Include: Play specific for production (Play texts do not fit the Raygor analysis, however all are commonly fgound on reading lists for similar courses at 4-year institutions.) Films, recordings, works of art, and other support materials.
