COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course utilizes acting, movement, voice, dance, and directing techniques in active participation in a
major theatrical production. May be repeated three times.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the completion of the course the student will be able to:
Synthesize a methodology for developing a role within a defined process (rehearsal) in order to
meet the obligations to the text, playwright and director.
Analyze a specific play script, its characters and all of the theatrical elements of the script for
the purpose of bringing the script to life in a full theatrical production.
Demonstrate an awareness of the importance of discipline, exactness, persistence,
diligence, imagination and teamwork in the craft of acting.
Classify the social, political, cultural and historical forces that are relevant to the specific
play being produced.

Writing assignments -- 3 reports:
 Text/Script analysis (using text: “A Holiday Song”) detailing the dramatic structure of
the play;
 Character Analysis (using text: “A Holiday Song”) examining the interpretation of
character, and the characters’ objectives and tactics used to achieve outcomes;
 Analysis of Improv/Stand-up comedy.
Participation
Quality of participation in classes, rehearsals, and performances, ability to read scripts, learn
lines, music, and choreography; ability to take direction
