COURSE/CATALOG DESCRIPTION
This course prepares students to take the State Brake Adjuster test and the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) A5 exam. This
course is a study of automotive braking systems. Emphasis is placed on theory of operation, diagnosis and repair of modern braking
systems.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of the course the student will be able to:
Demonstrate safe working practices.
Demonstrate proper use of tools required for service and inspection of brake and lamp systems.
Demonstrate knowledge of proper repair procedures for brakes.
Describe how the brake system functions, including anti-lock (ABS) systems.
INTENDED STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Students will be able to demonstrate proper safety procedure.
Students will demonstrate proper inspection and service of automotive brake system.
Students will demonstrate proper diagnosis and repair of automotive brake systems

OUTSIDE OF CLASS WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS:
Title 5, section 55002.5 establishes that a range of 48 -54hours of lecture, study, or lab work is required for one unit of credit.
For each hour of lecture, students should be required to spend an additional two hours of study outside of class to earn one
unit of credit.
