This takes instructional time from the beginning and end of each class session. For that reason it is Art Department’s policy that we meet four hours, rather than three hours, for one unit of credit. COURSE DESCRIPTION This course introduces and places a heavy concentration on the basics of lost wax burnout and centrifugal casting techniques for jewelry making. Students will learn spruing and gating, investment processes, pattern making – wax ring carving, small scale wax sculpting, finishing techniques and patination. Students will build on the foundations of jewelry design, fabrication and construction as well as additional exploration into more complex Precious Metal Clay techniques. Students will be expected to purchase and use .095 sterling silver for all projects. See Department for details. COURSE OBJECTIVES At the completion of the course the student will be able to: Demonstrate more advanced knowledge of jewelry design Demonstrate a working knowledge and technical abilities necessary for jewelry casting. Demonstrate more complex jewelry fabrication skills and deeper understanding of construction. Demonstrate a higher level of knowledge of Precious Metal Clay techniques Demonstrate knowledge in presentation, marketing, and sales of jewelry.
