The course will review statutes and case laws relating to the use of lethal and non-lethal weapons; legal and moral aspects of using reasonable force; methods of arrest; proper and safe handling of lethal and non-lethal weapons; legal and moral aspects of using weapons; and professional and personal obligation of the peace officer to society. Felony conviction prohibits enrollment. May be repeated three times for training purposes.. COURSE OBJECTIVE At the completion of the course the student will be able to: React on an emotional level rather than an intellectual level when presented with sets of lethal and non-lethal situations Demonstrate by oral communication how each will arrive at analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of a situation then through role playing with the peer group,. To assist the student in maximum development of emotional control during periods of intense stress from physical or emotional situations. To provide time and place for students to interact and develop their sense of responsibility and self-confidence. To provide the student with discretion, confidence, and manipulative skills required to safely use lethal weapons. To provide the student with the knowledge of handguns and their parts. To provide the student with an understanding of ammunition. Understanding the gun safety rules. To teach the student the proper way to clean, maintain, and store firearms. The proper transporting of firearms. Understand the firearm laws of this state.
